If Australia has been on your list for years, consider this your sign. Here’s the geography quirk that trips people up: their summer is our winter.

December through February is Australia’s peak season, and it’s booking right now. The dream version of the trip: Sydney Harbour on a warm evening, the Great Barrier Reef in prime visibility, wine country lunches in the sun, during our coldest months, and the best properties are small enough to sell out nearly a year ahead.

The distances are the other reason to start early. A well-built Australia trip usually covers three or four regions, and the internal flights, island lodges, and reef experiences all need to line up.

August is exactly when this planning should happen. Message me and let’s get started!

Two continents, one city. Istanbul is split between Europe and Asia by the Bosphorus Strait, and hopping between them is just the morning ferry. No other major city on the planet can say that.

And that's just the geography. The Hagia Sophia has stood for 1,500 years, longer than most countries have existed. The Grand Bazaar runs 4,000 shops deep, with unlimited apple tea while you haggle. And at sunset, ferries glide across the Bosphorus while the call to prayer rolls over the water.

Advisor tip: Istanbul is one of the world's great flight hubs, so it works brilliantly as a standalone trip or a few nights tacked onto almost anywhere east.

“How far in advance should I book?” It’s the question I hear more than any other, and the honest answer is: it depends on the trip. So I made you a cheat sheet.

12+ months: safaris, Antarctica and expedition cruises, Japan in cherry blossom season, festive holiday weeks, and river cruises.

9 to 12 months: Australia and New Zealand, European summer at top-tier properties, and multi-generational trips needing connecting rooms or villas.

6 to 9 months: most European trips, Southeast Asia, and Caribbean winter.

Under 6 months: city breaks, shoulder-season Europe, Mexico, and last-minute magic I can occasionally pull off through my relationships.

The pattern is simple: the smaller the property and the more specific the dates, the earlier you book.

Not sure where your dream trip lands on this list? Ask me. That’s what I’m here for.

“Wellness travel isn’t really for me.” I hear it constantly, usually right before I change someone’s mind. A few myths worth clearing up:

Myth one: it’s just spa days. Modern wellness travel includes sleep programs, longevity diagnostics, fitness retreats, and medical-grade health assessments at some of the world’s top resorts.

Myth two: you have to give things up. Plenty of programs come with exceptional food, wine with dinner, and zero judgment. Wellness and enjoyment are not opposites.

Myth three: it requires a dedicated trip. Some of my best results come as a layer: two spa days built into a safari, a sleep program at the start of a long Asia itinerary, a few days of movement and recovery after a busy city stretch.

Myth four: it’s only for wellness people. The skeptics tend to come back the most converted.

Curious what this could look like on your next trip? That’s a conversation I’d love to have.

A little secret from behind the advisor desk: two rooms in the same hotel can deliver completely different vacations. Same lobby, same pool, wildly different experience.

This is why I spend so much time on room categories. A few real examples of what I’m weighing:

Which building or wing is closest to the beach, and which one hears the pool bar until 11pm. Which “ocean view” means panoramic and which means a sliver between palm trees. Which suite layout actually works for a family of five, and which one just says it does. Which floor gets the sunrise.

I know these details because I’ve stayed in these hotels, walked the properties, and heard years of honest client feedback.

Booking sites show you a category name and a photo. I tell you the room number to request. That’s the difference. Message me before your next booking.

Want to be the person in your group chat who found the place first? Here's your head start.

Cap Karoso opened on the far western tip of Sumba, an Indonesian island one flight past Bali where megalithic tombs still stand in villages and traditional houses rise 80 feet into the sky. The resort itself could not be a bigger contrast: sleek, modern architecture filled with Sumbanese art and textiles, plus 44 rooms and 20 pool villas overlooking a turquoise lagoon.

At the heart of it all is a three-hectare organic farm that supplies the restaurants, including Julang, where visiting chefs from around the world cook in residence. Beyond the resort, Sumba's famous sandalwood ponies gallop the beaches at sunset, a sight worth the trip on its own.

Ready to be early to a destination instead of late? Let's talk Sumba.

Lake Como is beautiful. It's also busier than it's ever been. Five lakes I love that still feel like a discovery:

- Lake Garda, Italy: the biggest of the Italian lakes, with lemon groves, medieval towns like Sirmione, and a livelier energy than its famous neighbor.
- Lake Lugano, Switzerland: Italian soul, Swiss polish. Palm trees on the promenade, mountains rising straight out of the water, and Milan just an hour away.
- Lake Lucerne, Switzerland: steamboats, mountain railways, and Belle Époque hotels along the shore.
- Lake Bled, Slovenia: the fairytale one, complete with an island church and a clifftop castle.
- Lake Bohinj, Slovenia: Bled's wilder sibling just 30 minutes away, ringed by the Julian Alps and blissfully free of crowds.

Every one of these pairs beautifully with a bigger itinerary. Tell me which caught your eye and I'll build around it.

Here’s a piece of hotel trivia I love sharing with clients: Ritz-Carlton has around 100 hotels worldwide. Fewer than ten carry the word Reserve. Zadún is one of them.

The Reserve designation is the brand’s most exclusive tier, and it changes the experience completely. At Zadún, in San José del Cabo, that means villa-style rooms built into the desert dunes above the Sea of Cortez, a personal host assigned to your stay, and a pace that feels nothing like a big resort.

The spa, Alkemia, is a destination on its own, and dinner at Humo, the wood-fire restaurant, is one of the best meals in Los Cabos.

Advisor tip: winter brings whales right offshore, and this stretch of coast near Puerto Los Cabos is calmer than the Cabo San Lucas end. Reach out to learn more.
