The next Camino de Santiago Holy Year, known as the Ano Xacobeo, arrives in 2027. This special year occurs whenever the Feast of Saint James (July 25) falls on a Sunday. After 2027, the following ones will be 2032, 2038, and 2049, making each one a relatively rare opportunity.
Two key features define a Holy Year. The Holy Door (Porta Santa) of Santiago Cathedral, normally sealed, opens on December 31, 2026, and stays open throughout 2027. Pilgrims entering through it join a tradition stretching back centuries. Catholic pilgrims can also receive a plenary indulgence by visiting the cathedral, praying, attending Mass, and going to Confession within 15 days of their visit.
