Guests awoke to quite a surprise this morning! The river rose significantly overnight with flood water extending all the way up to the bottom step of the house deck! 😳

After cresting around noon, the water receded quickly and was nearly back in its banks by late afternoon.

Fortunately, our guests, their pets and our home escaped injury. 😮‍💨

It’s always humbling to watch the power of Mother Nature. 🤯

A word about why….

We began sharing our river home as a vacation rental in 2014. We’ve learned a lot along the way, met a lot of wonderful people and still thoroughly enjoy hosting our valued guests. We attribute our success to our own personal hospitality efforts and to the attention we give our home. Beyond our own efforts, however, we acknowledge that a large portion of our success can be attributed to the exposure we’ve received through our partnership with vrbo and Airbnb.

The vacation rental business has changed considerably over the past ten years. (HomeAway was founded in 2005. HomeAway acquired vrbo in 2006. Expedia acquired HomeAway in 2015.) Homeowners continue to absorb steadily increasing subscription/transaction fees and endure arbitrary rules that sometimes defy common sense. Guest service fees for vrbo currently range between 6% and 15% compared to Airbnb’s fees more typically in the range of 14%.

We felt it was time for a change to help ourselves and also to help you!

We offer 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, family room, sunroom, fully stocked kitchen, outdoor deck, outdoor pavilion, six kayaks and firewood. We’re also pet friendly for up to two well trained, housebroken dogs.
