The history presented at the San Xavier del Bac Mission is a history of indigenous peoples of the southwest, the earliest European explorers of the region, of Spain and of the Catholic Church. As people and ideologies collided, the mission has stood and observed for centuries, since its completion in 1797. Masses are still held here and native crafts are still sold within the mission’s shadows. No visit to southern Arizona is complete without a stop here. 🌵
