We visited Nemacolin for Spring Break based off the recommendations of a few friends. It’s an easy drive, around three and a half hours from Columbus, OH and about an hour and a half south of Pittsburg, PA. Upon arriving we were immediately impressed. The grounds are extremely well kept, even with a number of renovation projects going on. There is a private airstrip on the grounds right behind the main lodge and chateau for those who value the ultimate convenience. Upon checking in at the homes and estates check in location we were greeted by butlers and staff who promptly checked us in and took us to our townhome. Once we arrived at the townhome we could see zoo animals, including lions, tigers, bears, white buffalo and more out our front and back doors. It was a pretty amazing experience to wake up every morning to the lions roaring! The townhome we stayed in had two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms and was perfect for a family of three.

Nemacolin truly has everything you need on property. Including having 24/7 free shuttle service to take you anywhere on property. They will typically arrive within 5 minutes of you notifying them. In addition, The Bachelor and Bachelorette were both filmed at Nemacolin and they even have a piece of the Berlin Wall on property!

Nemacolin is an extremely well decorated resort hosting a total of 22 Forbes 4 and 5 Star awards.

While there, Vicki and I were able to use the Forbes 4 star Woodlands Spa. We both got the Crystal Massage, 90 minutes, and it was one of the best massages we have both ever had. The only bad experience we had on the trip was after our massage in the Fireside Lounge we were clearly forgotten about and took 30+ minutes to even acknowledge we were there. The staff clearly overlooked our reservation. This was all after our massage therapist personally brought us up to the Fireside Lounge to check us in. It was an unfortunate set of events and it did leave us with a negative impression after such a great massage.

The Peak is an adventure center that offers year round activities. Whether you’re looking to take a dip in a year-round heated outdoor pool and/or hot tub, race down ski slopes, or explore endless indoor and outdoor thrills, The Peak promises an extraordinary experience in any season. We spent every day at the Peak and enjoyed the outdoor pools, art classes, and dining.

Nemacolin also offers two golf courses on property, designed by Pete Dye.

Mystic Rock which Hosted the PGA Tour 84 Lumber Classic and was named #2 “Best Courses You Can Play: Pennsylvania” by Golfweek 2023 along with North America’s Best Golf Hotel by World Golf Award 2023.

Shepherd’s Rock, which I was able to play during our visit, is a North America’s Best Golf Hotel by World Golf Award 2023, #5 “Best Courses You Can Play: Pennsylvania” by Golfweek 2023, and Editor’s Choice “Best Golf Resorts in the Mid-Atlantic” by Golf Digest 2022 award winner. For the first round of the year I shot a 91 and was pleased.

To end the trip we did the Safari Tour where we went on an adventure around the large animal habitats. We rode through the habitats in a van, had the opportunity to view keeper training and feeding demos. It was a fun experience, especially how close you get to some extremely powerful animals.

Whether you’re looking for a quick weekend getaway or a week long trip Nemacolin has something to offer every family and should be added to your list of places to visit! Our family will be returning!

We visited the Gatlinburg, TN area as we were in town to check out some land we ended up buying. We were only in town for a short period of time and we decided to try the Wayback, Pigeon Forge, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel. It’s the first time we have stayed at a Tribute Portfolio hotel. When we arrived we noticed it was different than all the Marriotts we have stayed at. In order to get to your room it was all outside. We checked in and we were told we were upgraded to their presidential suite! We then went to our room. We walked in and it had a nice living area with a fireplace and flat screen TV. The presidential suite had two full bathrooms and two bedrooms and our son got the room with the fireplace and loved the “old fashion radio”. The overall property was nice and had an outdoor pool, hot tub and converted airstream camper turned into a bar. The staff was very nice and were prompt at answering questions or getting service. There were some negatives of our stay: the hot tub didn’t work (it was freezing), we were told the outside bar area would be open until 10:00 PM and it never actually opened. In addition, being right in the heart of everything (the property is right on the main strip in Pigeon Forge) you could hear cars and trucks all night long. If you’re seeking a property that’s unique, with good service and right in the heart of Pigeon Forge this is one that would be worth checking out!

We visited Charlotte for a family Baptism and stayed at the JW Marriott Charlotte. This is our second stay at the JW Charlotte. Upon arrival we were greeted and promptly checked in. After we got checked in the Marriott staff member personally walked us to the elevator and assisted us with getting to our room. The hotel is nicely done and has three restaurants on site: Aura Rooftop (21+), Dean's Italian Steakhouse, and Caroline's Oyster Bar. The hotel also offers a rooftop pool, 24-hour fitness center, Spa by JW, and an Executive Lounge. The Executive Lounge is very large and offers plenty of space. The breakfast in the morning was really good and the staff members remembered us from day to day. The lobby is a little small and is typically very active because of that. The Italian restaurant is also on the first floor. To end the stay Marriott surprised us with turndown service, which included remaking our bed, replenishing our towels, and leaving a note and chocolate on the bed. It was an excellent little touch to cap our three night stay. As a Marriott Titanium Elite member we are used to getting upgraded at most Marriotts we stay at. However, the two times we have stayed at this hotel we have never received an upgrade and even if we used our suite night requests they have gotten denied. If you’re looking for a higher end hotel in Charlotte the JW Marriott is a solid option.

The Lytle Park Hotel (311 Pike Street, Cincinnati), part of the Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection. The hotel is a 4 star hotel and is also included on the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts list. The hotel is an amazing hotel with caring staff! The hotel was very nicely decorated for the holidays, including having a special visit from Santa, which made our 7 year old son and his cousins very happy! The rooftop bar is a great feature of the property. Whether you want to relax after a Cincinnati Reds or Cincinnati Bengals win or just to grab a drink, I highly recommend checking it out. The property also features a brand new Cadillac Escalade that will take you anywhere within 3-5 miles. This service is not directly advertised by the hotel but is a great added benefit. There are limited spaces available so make sure you get on the schedule. Marriott upgraded our room to the Rainwater room. This room was excellent with its own large soaker tub, separate shower, and spacious floor plan. If you need a hotel in Cincinnati make sure to stay at the The Lytle Park Hotel, Autograph Collection.

The Umstead Hotel and Spa is a 5 star hotel and our experience was truly 5 stars throughout our stay. It started with being greeted with champagne, followed by a room upgrade to the suite at checkin. After we got settled they delivered a bottle of wine as a surprise welcome gift. Later that evening they brought slippers, set out our bath robes on our bed, brought bottles of water, and put chocolates on our bed side. We ordered some room service, cookies and ice cream, as a surprise for our 6 year old son which he loved. In the morning we woke up to breakfast being delivered to the room promptly at 9:30 am, setting up our table to overlook the scenic views from our room. To end the stay I had an hour massage at the spa which was also 5 stars! The spa has a coed pool, then private male and female areas. The male area has two very nice showers, indoor hot tub, massage chairs, steam room, sauna, and a cold plunge room. Staff was excellent at the spa.

I have stayed in a lot of hotels with work and personal trips. This is the best service I have ever had! Anytime we are back in the Raleigh, NC area we will be staying The Umstead Hotel and Spa!
