Have you even thought about where your milk comes from? How it gets from cow to store? At Monument Farms Dairy in Weybridge VT, they not only think about it, they experience it everyday.

They started out as a small family farm, with every member of the James family pitching in to milk, process, bottle and deliver the fresh milk to neighbors and businesses. Since the 1930's it's been a local staple.

It remains a James family operation to this day, but they've expanded the herd size and become the premier dairy producer in Addison County. You can only find their products locally, for purchase at the grocery or general store. Or in many dishes at local restaurants. Their goal is to get the milk from cow to consumer in as short a time as possible. As they continue to grow, Monument Farms Dairy seeks to add to their team! Check out their website, monumentfarms.com to see what opportunities are available.

Weybridge is a small rural town in Addison County Vermont, but don’t let its size or the less than 1000 residents fool you, it is home to some very important businesses. First there is the historic UVM Morgan Horse Farm, in existence since the early 1870’s (on the very same farmland), the Morgan horses it breeds today can be traced back to the original steed of Justin Morgan himself. Then there is Monument Farms Dairy, the premier dairy producer in Addison County. Their products can only be found locally, no mass or interstate distribution. Just local, high quality milk products. Weybridge is steeped in history and tradition as showcased by these two long-time farms. A close community makes it the perfect place to call home.

Adventuring along route 74 in Shoreham, seemingly out of nowhere, large sculptures come into view. What you thought were horses grazing are in fact life size works of art. Giant monoliths of stone, metal creations from the abstract and surreal to the comical and realistic, driftwood and glass, a few in motion, more than 50 in total make up this completely free attraction. The Lemon Fair Sculpture Park is open daily, 9-5, May through November. Take a self-guided tour to view each piece painstakingly created by artists from all over the US (and one from Argentina). The property owners have graciously opened their land and ask only for respect of the art (please no climbing), one another (keep your dogs on a leash), and their privacy.

The natural beauty of Addison County is so esteemed that on Green Up Day, you’ll see hundreds of volunteers; from scout groups, and churches, to businesses and clubs, scouring roadways, parks, and waterways for trash. This litter is more than an eyesore, Vermonters know it has serious environmental repercussions if left where it doesn’t belong. By keeping Addison County green we preserve our natural environment for future generations of people and wildlife. Imagine you PLAYING here: https://bit.ly/ImagineVT

The Green Mountain State, and specifically Addison County, has always taken the health of its natural resources seriously. However, in April of 1970 a statewide effort began to engage Vermonters in the maintenance of shared green spaces, especially roadsides. Over 50 years later, the first Saturday of every May, rain or shine, hundreds of Vermonters volunteer their time to keep their communities clean and beautiful. Providing the soundtrack to summer evenings in Addison County, VT the small in stature, large in melodious delight Hermit Thrush is Vermont’s state bird. Nicknamed the ‘American nightingale’ due to its flute-like songs. These hoppy little birds are common everywhere in Addison County, though they especially enjoy forest interiors with open areas such as ponds or meadows nearby.

Middlebury VT is the seat, or shire town, of Addison County. Though since there isn’t really a county level government system in Vermont, the title is largely symbolic. However, Middlebury is the center of Addison County. Geographically it lays almost directly in the middle, and most of the major roadways pass through it.

It’s the most populous town in Addison County with just under 10,000 residents. It might feel bigger than that as it’s home to prestigious Middlebury College, which was the first community-founded college in the United States. It boasts a beautiful, walkable downtown area full of shops, restaurants, and art of all kinds. With Otter Creek tumbling over the falls creating a roaring back ground to small town life.

Lovers of clear, icy cool streams, deep dark eddies, and fallen floating trees, the Brook Trout is not only the official Vermont State Fish, but also the only native stream-dwelling trout. Lovingly referred to as a ‘Brookie’, or sometimes a speckled or squaretail, these are not trophy fish, but any serious angler will tell you they’re good eatin’. Addison County, VT has many miles of cold, clean streams that support the Brook Trout population. They are often a young angler’s first catch, topping the scales at 5lbs, most weigh in much less making them an easy catch for first timers.
