Then, welcome to Postcard Jar. We’re Ann and Steve Teget and we’re glad you’re here! Postcard Jar is a blog (just a fancy name for our personal website), where we share travel and healthy living inspiration to help you take the next step on your journey. Basically, think of us as your guides to new destinations and unique experiences that will inspire you to live your best life. As lifetime lovers of travel and learning, we take you to interesting places and show you how to make the most of every trip. And, having recently lost a combined 200+ pounds (thanks to a healthy diet and more movement … don’t worry, we’re not selling anything) we also share our best tips for developing a healthier lifestyle. As for the name, Postcard Jar - when we travel, we purchase a postcard, jot down a few highlights of our trip, and mail it to ourselves back home. We display our postcards in a large, glass jar that sits on a table in our entryway. Today is National Good Neighbor Day and we have so much to celebrate! We moved to Rochester, MN in December, and hit the absolute jackpot with good neighbors.

Everyone has been so nice and welcoming. We enjoy chats in the driveways and at the community mailbox, meals together, and have even attended some special events with our neighbors. When we moved in, people stopped by, sent us cards, and welcomed us to the neighborhood.

We've loved hearing our neighbors' travel stories, admiring their flowers and landscaping, and getting know a variety of people.

And, it turns out Ruth next door is from Nebraska, so we've also enjoyed watching Husker sporting events together. 🏐🏈🏀 GBR!

In a time where so many people feel isolated and alone, getting to know your neighbors can be so uplifting and encouraging.

National Good Neighbor Day is a nice excuse to do something small that makes your neighborhood feel a little more connected. It doesn’t have to mean hosting a block party or becoming best friends—simple gestures count.

Here are some easy ideas:

- Introduce yourself. If there’s someone nearby you’ve never met, walk over and say hello.
- Take over a small treat. Cookies, muffins, flowers, or even a couple of apples from the farmers market make an easy icebreaker.
- Sit outside for a while. Have coffee on the porch or driveway instead of inside. Being visible creates natural opportunities for conversation.
- Host an open house or neighborhood gathering (we did this two weeks after moving in).
- Learn—and remember—their names. Especially the names of their kids and pets.
- Give a genuine compliment. Tell someone you love their flowers, landscaping, front door, or Halloween decorations.
- Offer a simple favor. Bring in a trash bin, pick up a package, shovel a little extra sidewalk, or offer to water plants when they're away.
- Share something you have too much of. Garden tomatoes, zucchini, herbs, baked goods, or leftovers from a party are perfect excuses to knock on a door.
- Invite someone without making it complicated. “We’re sitting outside tonight around 6:30 if you’d like to come over for a glass of w**e or lemonade.”
- Welcome the new people. You don't need a fancy welcome basket. A handwritten note with your names and phone number is wonderful.

🎂 Join me in wishing Steve a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

And since one of his favorite things is meeting people from all over, leave him a birthday wish in the comments and tell us where you’re from or how you met him! 🌎

It’s hard to believe everything he's packed in since his last birthday. We were blessed with 8 cruises on four different cruise lines, went to Paris together for the first time, and we finally checked off one of our biggest bucket-list dreams with an incredible invitation to an African safari. 🦁 It has been the most exciting and adventurous year.

Eight cruises and a safari in 12 months may sound excessive, but we like to call that "continuing education." 😂

And actually, that’s pretty fitting for Steve.

One of the things I love most about him is that he is a lifelong learner. He’s endlessly curious about the world, always reading, researching, asking questions and wanting to understand different places and cultures. He has an incredible sense of adventure and is always eager to see what’s around the next corner.

After spending his career in public school administration, retirement has given him the chance to return to what I think is really at the heart of who he is: a teacher.

His classroom just looks a little different these days.

Now his favorite subject is travel, and instead of teaching students, he gets to educate our travel clients and friends about ships, destinations, cultures and all the amazing experiences this world has to offer. Watching him find this new purpose over the last few years has been such a joy and I couldn't be more happy for him.

But as much as I love my business and travel partner, those aren't the things I love most about Steve.

I love the way he always does the right thing. The many ways he takes care of Meghan and me. I love his steady faith and the way he serves as a spiritual leader for our family. I love his curiosity, his sense of humor, his adventurous spirit and the fact that after all these years, he's still the person I most want sitting beside me—whether that's on or screened in porch at home, on a cruise ship somewhere in the Mediterranean, or out in the African bush looking for lions.

The older we get and the more of the world we see, the more we understand what a gift all of this really is.

We will never take one day—or one trip—together for granted.❤️

We don’t know how many trips—or birthdays—we get in this life. So we’re going to keep being grateful for every one of them, keep saying yes to adventures when we can, keep making memories with the people we enjoy most and, of course, keep collecting those cruise loyalty points (we're almost to Zenith!).

Happy birthday to my loving husband, my favorite travel partner and a talented teacher. I love you, Steve, and hope you have the BEST day. ❤️

🎂 🥳 Join us in wishing our daughter, Meghan, a happy birthday! (Please share a birthday note and your location in the comments.)

Her birthday always takes me back to being 24 years old, single, far from my family and trying to make a living as a young sports writer when I found out I was pregnant. I was scared, had very little money and had no idea what the future would hold. After a lot of prayer and soul-searching, I made the decision to have Meghan and raise her on my own.

It was the biggest decision of my young life—and, without question, the best one.

Thirty-two years later, I look at Meghan and sometimes wish that scared 24-year-old version of me could have had just a glimpse of the future. I would have seen a beautiful little girl grow into a compassionate, loyal, smart and faith-filled woman with an incredible heart for others. Today she’s a nurse at Mayo Clinic, pursuing her doctorate in nursing, and is such a blessing to so many friends and family.

I believe God knew Meghan long before I ever held her in my arms, and it has been my privilege to watch His plans for her life unfold.

So today we are celebrating YOU, Meghan—the amazing daughter you have been, the woman you have become and all that still lies ahead. You changed my life 32 years ago, and being your mom remains one of my greatest joys.

Happy birthday! We are so very proud of you, and we love you very much. ❤️
