Postcard Jar is a blog (just a fancy name for our personal website), where we share travel and healthy living inspiration to help you take the next step on your journey. Basically, think of us as your guides to new destinations and unique experiences that will inspire you to live your best life. As lifetime lovers

of travel and learning, we take you to interesting places and show you how to make the most of every trip. And, having recently lost a combined 200+ pounds (thanks to a healthy diet and more movement … don’t worry, we’re not selling anything) we also share our best tips for developing a healthier lifestyle. So, whether it’s road tripping through the Midwest, cruising across the oceans, or figuring out how and where to take a hike, we’re excited for you to join us! As for the name, Postcard Jar - when we travel, we purchase a postcard, jot down a few highlights of our trip, and mail it to ourselves back home. We display our postcards in a large, glass jar that sits on a table in our entryway. It’s a constant reminder of where we’ve been, the experiences we’ve gained, and the memories we’ve made along the way. Thank you for coming along on this journey with us. Day 4 of our French Intensive Cruise on the Azamara Onward brought us to beautiful Marseille, France! 🇫🇷

Sometimes travel plans change, and that's part of the adventure. Our shore excursion to the lavender fields was canceled (they aren't quite in bloom yet), so we decided to create our own day exploring this vibrant port city.

We hopped aboard the local hop-on, hop-off bus (called the Color Bus here) and enjoyed the full one-hour loop around Marseille, taking in the sights and getting our bearings. From there, we explored on foot, stopping at several of the city's iconic spots to admire the stunning architecture, browse for a few souvenirs, and enjoy a leisurely lunch along the waterfront. The Croque-Monsieur was fantastic and tasted even better with a glass of French wine.

One of our favorite moments came on the walk back to the ship when we stopped at a beautiful basilica. We took a few quiet moments to pray and reflect, feeling incredibly grateful for the opportunity to experience places like this together.

Travel isn't always about checking off every item on the itinerary. Sometimes it's about slowing down, embracing the unexpected, and appreciating the moments that unfold along the way.

We're feeling very blessed to be here and soaking up every minute of this incredible journey. ❤️

Most of you found the leopard and the hippo in our photos a couples weeks ago. Now, can you find our ship?

Yep - that's it right between the two buildings. We were literally docked right next to a street in town. So close that I'm not sure the captain didn't have to plug the meter. 😂

This is one of the BEST things about cruising on a small ship like the Azamara Onward. We get to dock in smaller cities, park just steps away from attractions, and have more time to spend in each destination. We could definitely get used to this.

Yesterday we stepped back in time with a visit to Carcassonne, France, one of the most remarkable places we've seen on our travels. I (Steve) had visited this place 1996 and couldn't wait to show Ann. It was about a two-hour drive from the port. But because Azamara cruises focus on the destinations and has longer stays at port, we had ample time to make the trip there and back.

This ancient fortified hilltop city is surrounded by double walls lined with arrow slits and other defenses, including portcullises and drawbridges. In its day, it was considered nearly unconquerable.

As we wandered the narrow cobblestone streets, it was easy to imagine what life might have been like here 600 to 800 years ago. We could almost hear the rattle of horse-drawn carts and picture merchants calling out from their shops as townspeople went about their daily lives. Around every corner were stone buildings, ancient gates, charming shops, and views that felt straight out of a storybook.

We strolled along the ramparts and castle walls, taking in spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. We also visited the town's Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus, where the stained-glass and rose windows left us in awe.

Later, we enjoyed a light lunch at a sidewalk café (I had the traditional Croque Monsieur) before continuing our exploration through the town's winding streets and inviting shops.

Carcassonne is one of those places where it's easy to lose track of time. For a few hours, we felt transported to another era while enjoying all the comforts of the present.

Day 2 of our French Intensive Cruise aboard the Azamara Onward was everything we love about small-ship cruising.

The day started with complimentary room service breakfast on our balcony—a leisurely way to ease into the morning while watching the world go by.

When we arrived in Palamós, Spain, we decided to explore on our own. One of the biggest advantages of sailing on a smaller ship is that you're often docked right near the heart of town, making it easy to simply walk off the ship and start exploring.

We spent the morning wandering the charming streets, browsing local shops, and—of course—buying a postcard and mailing it home. (Some habits never change!) For lunch, we grabbed a simple but delicious Iberian ham sandwich and enjoyed soaking up the local atmosphere.

One of our favorite finds of the day? Picking out handmade hats from a local artisan shop. We were pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the prices were throughout Palamós, and the people couldn't have been friendlier.

Back onboard, we caught up on a little work while enjoying some incredible sea views before getting ready for the evening's events.

The night began with a cocktail reception for the travel advisors onboard for the Seminar at Sea, followed by dinner at Prime C Steakhouse. One of the many perks of staying in a Club Continent Suite is that specialty dining is included, so we took full advantage and enjoyed a wonderful meal with a gorgeous view from the stern.

We wrapped up the evening with the Captain's Welcome in the Cabaret Lounge - a perfect ending to a fantastic day.

Two days down, and this 7-night voyage is already off to an amazing start.

Not all cruise lines are the same—and that’s exactly why we’re so excited to one that’s new to us.

We (Steve and Ann Teget) are setting sail on our very first Azamara cruise as part of a familiarization voyage designed to introduce us to this small-ship premium cruise line. Over the next seven nights, we’ll be experiencing Azamara firsthand so we can bring everything we learn back to you—our readers, followers, and travel clients.

🌍✈️ What a whirlwind of a week!

Fresh off our Africa familiarization trip, we were home for about a week before hopping on a plane and heading to Europe for another FAM trip - this one, a cruise.

We arrived a few days early in Barcelona because there was one place we absolutely wanted to revisit: La Sagrada Família cathedral. It had been 11 years since our last visit, and, after that awe-inspiring visit, we were excited to see how much more complete Gaudí's masterpiece has become.

But a few weeks ago, the Pope decided to visit on the exact same day. 😄

As a result, all public tours were canceled—including ours. 😂 While we were disappointed, that's travel sometimes! One of the best lessons we've learned over the years is that flexibility often leads to unexpected discoveries.

So instead of spending the day inside La Sagrada Família, we explored other corners of Barcelona. We wandered through beautiful gardens, enjoyed some incredible tapas, visited the National Museum of Catalonian Art, broswed the shops, and simply soaked up the energy of one of our favorite European cities.

Sometimes the memories you didn't plan for end up being the ones you remember most.

We're excited for the next chapter of this journey and can't wait to share where we're headed next. Stay tuned—we think you're going to love it! 😊

One of the biggest highlights of our African safari with Great Safaris?

We saw all of the Big Five. 🦁🐘🦏🐃🐆

For those who may not know, the term "Big Five" dates back to the days of big-game hunting. These were considered the five most difficult and dangerous animals to track on foot: the lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo.

Today, thankfully, the goal isn't to hunt them—it's to photograph them, appreciate them, and protect them.

And seeing all five during a single safari is no small feat.

Some, like elephants and buffalo, are more commonly seen. Others, especially leopards, are notoriously elusive. They can be masters of camouflage, disappearing into the bush even when they're only a few yards away.

Every game drive felt like a treasure hunt.

Would we find lions today?
Would a rhino emerge from the brush?
Would we get lucky enough to spot a leopard before it vanished into the tall grass?

The anticipation was part of the magic.

Then there were those unforgettable moments when the animals appeared. Watching a herd of elephants cross the road in front of us. Seeing a rhino grazing peacefully in the distance. Locking eyes with a lion. And spotting a leopard so perfectly camouflaged that we almost missed it entirely.

By the end of our journey, we had seen all five.

Not in a zoo.
Not behind fences.
But in the wild, living exactly as nature intended.

It's one thing to read about the Big Five. It's another thing entirely to experience them in person, in their world.

Africa gave us many moments we'll never forget, and completing our Big Five sightings list is definitely one of them.
