Exactly why we love it here! 🌴☀️⛱️

World Atlas recently released its list of “the United States’s nine most laid back towns,” and an Alabama town known for drawing tourists from all over the country -- Gulf Shores -- garnered a spot among them.

On the list, Gulf Shores, which was one of two Southern towns included, was praised for offering visitors and residents alike coastal, scenic views and a variety of ways to enjoy spending time outdoors. World Atlas highlighted both Gulf State Park and Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge as places to enjoy outdoor recreation while surrounded by the natural beauty of the area.

🌴☀️ October on the Alabama Gulf Coast is something special!

This past weekend was absolutely gorgeous here in Fort Morgan! If you’ve never visited in October, you’re missing out!

The beaches are beautifully uncrowded, the breezes are just right, and the sunshine is still warm enough for lazy afternoons by the pool. Add a little pool heat, and it’s perfect! 💦

And the evenings? Even better! Relaxing by the fire bowl, soaking in the hot tub, and enjoying the moon and stars overhead. ✨🔥🌙

Who says beach season has to end when summer does?

Tucked away along the Weeks Bay Reserve in Fairhope, Weeks Bay Pitcher Plant Bog and Kurt G. Wintermeyer Nature Trail is the kind of quiet Alabama spot that feels like a real find. You pull in, start down the boardwalk, and right away the still air, soft birdsong, and wide stretch of bog make everything slow down in the best way. You stop to look at the pitcher plants, the bright wildflowers, the tall pines, and the little details in the water and grasses that make the trail feel alive. Dont rush past the signs either, because the nature facts, the easy walking path, and the peaceful overlooks add a lot to the visit. Its easy to explore at your own pace, free to enjoy, and calm without ever feeling boring. You leave feeling like you found one of those low-key places youll want to tell people about and then come back to again yourself.

Another beautiful place to visit in Gulf Shores, AL. 🌴🦋

Some of the smallest sights along Alabama’s coast deserve the longest pause.

The Butterfly Garden is one of the places to notice along the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail network in Gulf State Park. It adds a garden stop to a landscape that also includes forests, marshes, and coastal swamps.

For people walking or cycling, it offers a reason to slow down and look more closely at the plants and the activity around them. A trail outing can become more interesting when the destination is something small enough to miss while moving.

Spring and fall bring migrating butterflies through coastal Alabama, including monarchs. Gulf State Park has also offered educational programs about butterflies and participated in monarch tagging activities.

Wildlife sightings depend on the season, weather, and conditions, so the garden is best appreciated as part of a living landscape rather than a guaranteed butterfly display.

It also provides a different focus from the wide-open beach. Instead of looking toward the horizon, the attention shifts to flowers, leaves, and movement close at hand.

That variety is part of the park’s appeal. A single outing can include water views, wooded stretches, and a garden where a quiet moment may reveal something easily overlooked.

The beachside music festival "Sand In My Boots" is officially locked in for a return to the white-sand shores of Gulf Shores, Alabama, in May of 2027. Scheduled right before summer officially starts, the multi-day event serves as a major kickoff to the local tourist season.

🌴☀️ The morning after Hurricane Isaias! 🏖️

Feeling incredibly grateful this morning! ❤️ Magnolia Mooring appears to have weathered the storm beautifully, with no significant damage. We were fortunate to be on the western side of the hurricane and spared the worst of its impact.

Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone farther east who experienced the stronger winds and more severe conditions. We know not everyone was as fortunate, and we’re thinking of all the families and communities affected. ❤️🙏

So thankful to see our little piece of paradise still standing strong this morning! 🌴☀️⚓️

🐊🌴 Looking for a fun family adventure beyond the beach?

Take the kids to Alligator Alley in Summerdale, Alabama! 🐊 This unique wildlife sanctuary is home to hundreds of alligators, from tiny hatchlings to enormous adults! Wander along elevated boardwalks through the swamp and get an up-close look at these incredible creatures in their natural surroundings.

Our family has visited before, and we had such a great time! It’s a fun, memorable outing for kids and adults alike—and definitely something a little different from your typical beach day!

📍 Alligator Alley | Summerdale, AL

Baldwin County has a boardwalk where the neighbors have teeth, tails, and absolutely no interest in your beach plans.

Alligator Alley in Summerdale offers a different side of coastal Alabama. The attraction centers on a swamp sanctuary, with elevated walkways that allow visitors to observe alligators without walking through their habitat.

Owner Wes Moore opened the farm in 2004. Its purpose includes providing a home for relocated alligators removed from places where their presence creates problems. Behind the attraction is a practical issue: an alligator and a neighborhood are not always a workable combination.

The visit begins with an elevated viewing platform and continues along a boardwalk through the swamp. The farm houses hundreds of alligators, ranging from hatchlings to mature adults. Seeing those different sizes together puts their growth into perspective.

The setting also includes other wildlife. Alligator Alley identifies turtles, ospreys, owls, and bullfrogs among the animals found around the property. That gives the walk another layer beyond watching the biggest reptiles.

The tour is self-guided, while scheduled feeding demonstrations provide opportunities to watch staff work with the animals. The attraction also offers an opportunity to hold a baby alligator in its air-conditioned gator station.

Those experiences are part of an organized facility. There is a considerable difference between observing an alligator from a designated walkway and discovering one beside the family fishing spot.

Summerdale may not have the beach skyline associated with Gulf Shores or Orange Beach, but it has a coastal attraction with an entirely different view. Here, the water, vegetation, and resident reptiles are the main event.

Alligator Alley is located at 19950 County Road 71. A beach-area outing can include something other than sand, shopping, or another seafood plate. In this case, it includes a boardwalk above a swamp full of alligators.

Hello, October. 🌅
While much of the country is reaching for sweaters, we’re soaking up golden sunsets, warm Gulf breezes, and a little more room to breathe.

October is one of our favorite times of year at Kiva Dunes. Beautiful days on the course, quieter stretches of beach, and evenings that remind us why fall on the Alabama Gulf Coast is something special.
