Slovenia feels like a place where two worlds have collided.

It's a relatively young country, gaining its independence from Yugoslavia just 35 years ago. In Ljubljana, where we stayed, you can still see hints of its socialist past mixed in with a modern, vibrant European capital.

But then you head out toward Lake Bled…and it feels like you've stepped into a completely different world.

Quaint churches. Charming little villages. Mountains surrounding a turquoise-blue lake. And are those “snow-capped” peaks in the middle of summer? Nope. Just very convincing granite. I asked! 😂

Slovenia is beautiful, and it has some seriously unique experiences.

We:
- Hiked a mountain that our tour guide described as “easy.” I would like to formally disagree. 😂
- Followed a crystal-clear river through Vintgar Gorge
- Took a boat out to a 16th-century church sitting in the middle of Lake Bled
- Walked deep into a cave where stalactites are still growing today

Slovenia probably isn't the first destination that comes to mind when you're planning a European vacation. And honestly, I didn't know how much I would love it before we went.

But if you're planning a trip through the eastern part of Italy, I would absolutely consider adding Slovenia to the itinerary. The caves were only a 2.5 hour drive from Venice.

Sometimes the places you weren't expecting to fall in love with end up being the ones you talk about the most.

Travel Tip Tuesday: Compression bags are one of my favorite travel hacks!

These are one of those things I didn't know I needed until I started using them. 😂

They're not vacuum bags—you don't need a pump or anything fancy. Just put your clothes in, zip them up, and roll the air out.

They make SUCH a difference when you're packing for a longer trip or traveling to multiple destinations. I used them on our European trip, and I don't think I'll ever pack without them again.

I packed two or three days in each bag. That way, I only had to pull out one bag at a time instead of trying to go through my entire suitcase trying to find underwear, shorts, a shirt, and socks. The organization of it made me so happy!

And because I've had several people ask me what I pack when I travel, I put together a Travel Packing List with some of my favorite travel products.

It includes everything from compression bags and packing essentials to travel electronics, comfort items, security products, and those little things that are easy to forget.

On Thursday, I started watching Season 5 of Outer Banks (my guilty pleasure 🤪), and I was shocked when I realized the setting for the first few episodes was… Dubrovnik!

Since we visited Dubrovnik this summer, I was pretty excited to see how my experience compared to John B’s. 😂

The show actually did a great job showing the walled city, the narrow streets, and those steep steps! You can pay about 40 Euros to walk along the top of the wall surrounding the city, but we decided to explore inside the walls instead.

And I’m glad we did! The city was filled with the coolest little art and souvenir shops, beautiful cafés, and so many narrow streets to wander through. I didn't see any blue crowns while we were there, but maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough. 😆 We also went inside the beautiful church in the middle of the square. Just a heads-up if you visit, they require your shoulders to be covered, but they do have scarves you can borrow if you're underdressed.

One thing the show definitely exaggerated was the streets. They are very narrow, so driving motorcycles three-wide through them might be a challenge. 😂

And if you suddenly feel the urge to go cliff diving, good news: there's no need to jump a motorcycle over the city wall. There’s actually a bar where you can cliff dive right into the sea! And yes, the water really was just as clear and beautiful as it looked on the show.

Dubrovnik is definitely worth a visit… although I probably wouldn't recommend going there specifically to hunt for treasure. 😉

Do you remember the story about our cancelled flight, two hours trying to find a hotel, and ending up in a five star hotel we definitely couldn't afford because it was the only room available? Well, we finally got it paid for, but not by who we thought.

Swiss Air gave us a little over half - after originally denying our claim.

But our travel insurance paid the rest. And they didn't argue about it, try to deny it, or ignore it. I filled out some forms, uploaded some docs, and in less than two weeks, the money was in our account.

You can skip the extra skirt purchase, the cute shoes, and even the neck pillow.

But don't skip the travel insurance.
