🏔️ THROWBACK THURSDAY: From 98° in the Deep South to dreaming of the French Alps! ❄️🥾

This AFS throwback takes us to Lac Blanc, the spectacular alpine lake high above Chamonix, France, with the magnificent Mont Blanc massif as our backdrop. 🇫🇷🏔️Doing the Tour du Mont Blanc circuit was a dream come true — made even better by sharing it with our always-fun, always-ready-for-a-challenge Adventures for Solo Travelers “Fit Bits!” 💪🥾

Joey McGlamory, Michelle McGlamory, Diane Sivas Mariel Yapdiangco, Rick Parks, and the rest of our fabulous FitBits gang! (Sorry, if you aren't here - FB not letting me tag everyone.)

And when we say these folks LOVE TO HIKE, we mean it! Over the years, our Fit Bits have tackled Peru’s iconic Inca Trail, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, and conquered plenty of trails in between.

Ask someone who has traveled with AFS for years what keeps them coming back, and chances are the answer won’t just be the incredible places we go.

It’s the people.

There’s something pretty special that happens when a small group of solo travelers sets off on an adventure together. You show up knowing few people — maybe no one at all — and before you know it, you’re laughing over dinner, sharing those “you had to be there” moments, and making plans to travel together again.

And the best part? Those friendships don’t end when everyone flies home.

They continue through group texts, dinners, visits, celebrations, and, of course, more AFS adventures. Some of our travelers have been traveling together for years after meeting on that very first trip.

In just a few days … AFS arrives at the famed Botlierskop Private Game Reserve!🦁🐘🇿🇦

After all these years creating adventures around the world, I have MANY “favorite” favorite trips. But I have to say, this trip “Beyond the Wild Africa Safari” was definitely one of my most favorite trips to plan.

This is what I love about creating AFS journeys. We’re always working on your behalf—searching out those extraordinary places, unforgettable experiences and special touches that take a trip far beyond the ordinary. Luxury where it matters. Authentic experiences you simply can’t duplicate on your own. And always, the best value and fairest prices we can negotiate for our travelers.

And this South Africa adventure has it ALL.

Ha ha… the home office of my dreams! 😂 I wish y’all could see my actual home office right now.

We’re barely unpacked from our move to the wonderful Crestwind community; there are papers EVERYWHERE, and poor Piper can barely find a place to sit. 🐾 Meanwhile, AFS never stops!

My inbox is overflowing with emails from our partners around the world, my phone seems permanently attached to my ear, and I’m negotiating, negotiating, negotiating. Y’all know me—I want 5-star experiences at 3-star prices! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

And whew… even for this seasoned haggler, that’s getting harder. Costs around the world have gone up—a LOT—but I’m still over here negotiating every hotel, experience, and detail I can to get the best value possible for our AFS tribe. 💙❤️

Terry and I are knee-deep in putting together our 2027 adventures. Traditionally, October 1 is our big reveal—our own little Christmas in October—but some of our early 2027 trips simply couldn’t wait!

🇯🇵 Snow monkeys + the Sapporo Winter Festival in Japan
🇳🇿 Incredible hiking and hidden gems in New Zealand
🇹🇷 Turkey & Malta - Istanbul at the FAB Pera Palace, Cappadocia balloons + Antalya sunsets and an optional Malta extension.
🦒 And just 2 spots left for our first Kenya 2027 trip—including breakfast with the giraffes at Giraffe Manor!

AND… somehow in the middle of moving and all this, we launched a brand-new AFS website! 🎉 Isn’t she pretty?!

Now I’m drinking from the digital-marketing firehose trying to learn all these newfangled things. Algorithms? Auctions? SEO? Reels? Apparently I can’t just call y’all on the phone and say, “Trust me, you’re going to LOVE this trip!” 😂

❄️ SNOW MUCH FUN IN JAPAN! 🇯🇵

Dry January? Dull February? Not this year. 😜

What if February meant soaking in a steaming Japanese onsen… watching snow monkeys do the same… racing across Japan on a bullet train… eating your way through Tokyo… and then landing in Sapporo for one of the most spectacular snow and ice festivals in the world?

Now THAT’S how you do winter! ❄️🐒🍜♨️

Japan is amazing any time of year — but in winter, it becomes an entirely different adventure. Snow-covered temples. Cozy ryokans. Steaming hot springs. Sumo and sushi. Giant ice sculptures glowing after dark. And yes… those ridiculously adorable snow monkeys soaking in their own natural hot springs.

We’re going February 2–11, 2027, and this one is packed with those “I can’t believe I’m actually here” moments. Tokyo → Nagano → Snow Monkeys → Sapporo Snow Festival → Otaru…and a whole lot of fun in between.

Forget hibernating. We’re going to JAPAN! 🇯🇵❄️

Leisurely day touring around Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬 as the city prepares for the Nomad Games and the SCO Summit tomorrow, most of the streets were blocked off so it was a great day for a walking tour! We visited several monuments and landmark buildings between parks. 😃 After lunch, we visited the local market to pick up a few souvenirs! 💸 After a bit of free time, we headed to our farewell to Kyrgyzstan dinner of Filet Mignon Medallions in Apricot sauce, followed by Strawberry crepes for dessert! The cuisine in all 5 of the Stan’s has been amazing!!!! 😋
