You've taken the cruises, enjoyed the Caribbean beaches, and visited the destinations everyone says belong on your bucket list. As a former zoologist turned travel advisor, I'm particularly passionate about wildlife and expedition travel, but what matters most is finding the right experience for the person taking the journey. Okay, here’s one of my Galápagos hot takes…

If you’re going all the way to the Galápagos Islands, I would almost always lean toward an expedition cruise over a land-based stay.

And before someone tells me I’m wrong — hear me out. 😂

The Galápagos aren’t just one destination. They’re an entire archipelago, and the wildlife and landscapes can change dramatically from island to island.

So if wildlife and exploration are the reason you’re going, I want you to experience as much of that diversity as possible.

With an expedition ship, your hotel comes with you.

You aren't packing your bags every few days, changing hotels and spending valuable vacation time getting from one island to the next. Your ship becomes your home base while the expedition team takes you out to explore different islands, beaches, coves and wildlife habitats.

And that matters in the Galápagos.

Because you didn't fly all the way there to sit at the same beach for five days.

I want you out exploring.

I want you snorkeling with sea lions, watching marine iguanas, looking for giant tortoises, walking among colonies of birds and seeing how dramatically each island can differ.

And with my zoology background, this is where I get really excited. You're not just looking at wildlife; you're moving through an ecosystem that has evolved in some of the most fascinating ways on Earth.

Now, does that mean I think a land-based Galápagos trip is wrong? Absolutely not.

There are travelers for whom it may be the better fit. That's why I don't start with, “Here's the cruise I recommend.”

I start with you.

How do you like to travel? How active do you want to be? What wildlife is most important to you? How much of the islands do you want to experience?

Then we figure out which style of trip makes sense.

But if you tell me, “Amanda, I want wildlife, exploration and as much of the Galápagos as I can experience…”

I’ve been doing some soul searching lately, and I’m making a realignment of Endless Wanderlust. ❤️

First, I am incredibly grateful for the growth of this business. But that growth has also taught me something important: I cannot be an expert at everything.

There are thousands of destinations, travel styles, cruise lines and resorts. I can know about all of them, but I cannot give everything the depth of attention and expertise I believe my clients deserve.

So I’m choosing to focus on the travel that genuinely makes me excited to jump out of bed in the morning—the travel that lights my soul on fire and that I am deeply passionate about.

That means more of:

🇮🇪🏴 Ireland, Scotland & European travel
🧭 Expedition cruise & wildlife travel
🚢 Luxe small-ship & river cruising
🌴 All-inclusive resorts, including Sandals & Beaches

I want to become the most educated and knowledgeable advisor I can be in these spaces.

And that means becoming more intentional about my process, too.

I will no longer be providing quotes or detailed recommendations through DMs or email without first speaking with you. My professional travel design services also include planning fees, although those fees are currently waived through the end of the year for guided tours and all-inclusive resorts.

I’m also establishing dedicated office hours so I can protect the time needed for research, client care, my family and life outside of Endless Wanderlust.

This isn’t about doing less.

It’s about knowing more, serving better, and becoming exceptionally good at the travel I love most.

If seeing whales in the wild is on your bucket list… 🐋🌊

This is where having a zoology background comes in handy.

There’s a BIG difference between booking a vacation that happens to include a whale-watching excursion and intentionally planning a trip around the wildlife you’re hoping to see.

Where you go, when you go, which species you’re looking for, migration patterns, the type of vessel you’re on, how much time you have on the water — all of those details can matter.

After years of working with marine mammals, I know the questions I want to ask when I’m planning a wildlife-focused trip.

Because if you’ve dreamed about seeing a humpback breach beside your boat, watching orcas travel through the water, or simply experiencing a whale in its natural environment…

I want to help you plan a trip that gives you the best opportunity to make that moment happen. 🐋

This is one of my favorite parts of combining my background in zoology with what I do now.

If an Alaska cruise is on your radar for summer 2027 and you haven't started planning yet…

I'm going to tell you right now: you are behind the ball.

I’m currently working with a couple who wants to experience Alaska in completely different ways.

She wants the science.
Nature. Wildlife. Expedition-style experiences. Learning about the environment and actually getting out into it.

He wants refined luxury.
Beautiful accommodations. Exceptional food. Personal service. And the ability to come back from a day of exploring and be completely pampered.

So where am I looking?

Three very different possibilities:

🧭 Seabourn — the potential middle ground. Ultra-luxury onboard, but with an Expedition Team and itineraries that incorporate Alaska's wildlife, glaciers and more remote ports. Seabourn's 2027 Alaska season also includes select sailings through Glacier Bay.

🥂 Explora Journeys — if the luxury experience onboard needs to be a major part of the trip. EXPLORA III is making its Alaska debut in summer 2027, with spacious oceanfront suites, elevated dining and a very polished residential feel, while still offering wildlife, glacier and nature experiences ashore.

🔬 National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions aboard the Greg Mortimer — if the experience in Alaska is the priority. This is where we get much deeper into the expedition side of the equation, with a small ship designed for remote exploration, Zodiacs, an expert expedition team and only 154 guests. The Greg Mortimer is being chartered by Lindblad for its Alaska program beginning in 2027.

And this is exactly why I don't believe in simply sending someone a list of Alaska cruises and saying, "Here are your options!"

Because these three ships could give you three very different vacations.

The question isn't just:

"Which ship has the nicest suites?"

It's:

What do you want to EXPERIENCE in Alaska?

Do you want the luxury hotel at sea?

Do you want luxury + expedition?

Or do you want to get as deeply into the wilderness and wildlife as possible?

That's the kind of thing I'm sorting through before I ever put a proposal in front of my clients.

And if you're thinking about Alaska for summer 2027, now is the time to start having this conversation.

Because the right itinerary, cabin and sailing date may not still be sitting there waiting for you later.

Alaska isn't a trip I would wait until spring to plan.
