Any other rental owners following our cabins?

Drew’s been working on OwnerRez and the tech behind our two Gatlinburg cabins and two Seagrove Beach Bungalows. He’s now offering that help through SuzWay Systems.

If a guest message isn’t sending or a workflow has you stuck, he offers a $195 review of one workflow, for one property and up to two booking sources. Help fixing it is separate at $125/hour, with a limit agreed first.

Take a look, or pass it along to an owner who could use a hand:

Practical help from experience with our family's four rentals. Start with a $195 review of one workflow for one property.

Booking direct or through Airbnb and Vrbo? Both have their place.

A familiar platform gives you reviews, reservation tools and another support contact if something goes wrong. Direct booking can mean a lower total price and a closer connection with your host—especially when you’re returning to a place you know.

Compare the final total, cancellation terms and who you can contact for help. Platform protections have conditions, and a direct reservation won’t include that platform’s booking protections.

We welcome you either way. Choose what makes you comfortable.

Leave a little room in the itinerary for this.

Coffee on the deck. A long look at the mountains. Time to sit together before heading into Gatlinburg.

This is the upper deck at Haus of the Rising Sun. It’s one of our two family-owned cabins above Ober, and the view is a good reason to take your morning slowly.

Take a look at both cabins and choose the stay that fits your group.

Rain in Gatlinburg? We would start by checking park conditions, then pick one plan that fits the group: a short visit to Sugarlands Visitor Center, one indoor attraction in town, or a slow day at the cabin.

Our new guide has three flexible rainy-day plans and the current-source links to check before you go. Keep the return drive easy, especially if mountain roads are new to you.

Fall color in the Smokies does not arrive everywhere at once. Higher elevations often change first; the National Park Service says brighter color at middle and lower elevations commonly comes from mid-October into early November.

Our fall guide keeps the day simple: one scenic drive, one Gatlinburg stop, and time to enjoy the cabin. Check park conditions before heading out and keep a second plan ready.

A paved half-mile loop is not the same outing as a short but steep climb—even when both look “easy” on a map.

For Gatlinburg-area short walks, we rechecked NPS Current Cautions and Closures (Sept 22): Laurel Falls remains closed for rehabilitation; Bullhead has a Monday–Thursday closure pattern through Nov 19 (not an easy-walk pick).

Better starting question: which short outing fits your group and is open right now?

Fit cards (Sugarlands Valley Nature Trail, Cataract Falls from Sugarlands, Gatlinburg Trail, Kuwohi with steep/road caution) + where to verify:

Parking note: no timed entry; parking tag required for stays over 15 minutes (NPS). Always recheck before you leave.

Rising Sun is the roomier side of Roaring Bear: two decks, a private hot tub on the covered lower deck, and space for up to seven.

Downstairs is a king suite with deck access. Upstairs has another king bedroom, a twin nook, and a queen sleeper sofa. It is a good fit when the same Smokies trip needs a little more sleeping flexibility.

Setting Sun remains directly across the street for groups of up to five. Compare both, then choose the cabin that fits your people:

Dates not working? Minimum stays and availability vary by date. Check all available dates or compare both cabins for another option.

Looking for a quieter Smokies activity? The National Park Service lists a free Artist-in-Residence visitor program with painter Robert Palmerton at Sugarlands Visitor Center on Saturday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Programs can change because of conditions or staffing. Confirm with the National Park Service before leaving, and check current park alerts at the same time:
