Escaped to the Smokies this past weekend to spend a night in black bear country. We hiked along the Little River and were company to loads of fly fishers. The wife caught a few trout and now all I crave is fresh mountain air. Till next time, GSMNP 🐻🏕️

The fall colors were perfect for our a trip to the Clifty Wilderness of Daniel Boone National Forest 🍂 Started at the Rock Bridge Trailhead, checked out both Rock Bridge Arch and Creation Falls, and trekked along Swift Camp Creek. We snagged a beautiful campsite near the creek and had near perfect weather!

Stay tuned - we will be heading out to Great Smoky Mountain National Park this weekend for an over night trip along Little River, one of the most popular trout fishing rivers in the park!

Was it slightly disappointing to travel all the way to Mt. Baker NRA and not get a good view of the mountain? Slightly.....

Was it slightly disappointing to travel all the way to Mt. Baker NRA and not get a good view of the mountain? Slightly.. however, this is definitely one of the best backpacking trips I’ve experienced! We set up camp right on Arbuthnet Lake and then left all our gear so we could explore Hayes, Mazama, and Iceburg Lakes. Mace caught some fish and we made the best of a foggy day!

Heather-Maple Pass just outside North Cascade National Park (though a bit of the loop is actually in the park)! Love how much of this park is wilderness 🌲

Saw quite a bit of wildlife on this trail including a grouse, which I had never seen before, and of course lots of pika, squirrels, and chipmunk. 🐿️ Ate some huckleberries and spent a lot of time enjoying every angle of Lake Anne 🤩

Colchuck Lake and Leavenworth, WA! Couldn’t secure permits for the Enchantments so we settled for a day hike. This hike sure did live up to the difficulty described by AllTrails reviewers. 😅

Leavenworth was the cutest little town! 🍻 So glad we added this to the itinerary but I was very upset that I couldn’t find anywhere to drink a beer out of a fancy stein 😭

Skyline Loop 🐿️ I practically planned this entire trip around wanting to do this hike and it did not disappoint. The sky could have been a tad clearer however some folks travel thousands of miles and don’t even get to see the mountain.. so I consider us quite lucky!

There were sooo many marmots on trail. The fourth photo shows three of these little guys, including two that were wresting. We saw a few groups of marmots wresting and turns out that hill is nicknamed Marmot Hill which I thought was pretty cute. It is marked on AllTrails so don’t miss out on this wildlife viewing opportunity!

Backpacked to Five Mile Island and camped along the Hoh River on our last day in Olympic National Park. 🤩 Our trek included the famous Hall of Mosses trail. It was absolutely gorgeous but I feel as though other areas of the rainforest were just as beautiful. With this area being so popular, it definitely wouldn’t be the end of the world to take it out of your itinerary if you want to avoid the crowds (as long as you’re alright with missing out on the visitor center, which we were not… so it stayed in for us!)

Backpacking to Hole in the Wall was one of my favorite parts of our trip! Just be sure, anytime you camp on the beach, to camp as far from the shore as you can… I am slightly traumatized from waking up to the shoreline crashing a bit too close to our heads for comfort.

I would usually say I’m not a beach person but I had so much fun searching for sea creatures in the tide pools. Much less fun trying to keep the sand out of the tent haha.
