A vacation quote might look like a few options and a price.

What you don’t see is everything that happens before that quote lands in your inbox.

The questions.
The research.
The comparisons.
The flight searches.
The resort reviews.
The room categories.
The itinerary tweaking.
The emails.
The revisions.

And sometimes, after all of that…

Nothing.

This year, I’ve quoted 46 trips. 19 booked, 19 fell through and 8 are still pending.

I’m not sharing that because I’m frustrated with people who change their minds. I get it. Travel plans change.

I’m sharing it because I think there’s a misconception that travel advisors get paid simply for putting together a quote.

We don’t.

The quote is the work. The booking is what eventually pays us.

So going forward, I’m going to ask a few more questions before I start researching. Not because I don’t want to help, but because I want to make sure I’m spending my time helping people who are genuinely ready to make a plan.

And when the right trip comes together?

That’s the fun part.

Because there’s a big difference between booking a cruise and planning the right cruise for you.

The bottom line for travelers? Airlines are doing everything they can to save fuel and control costs, but fuel is still a huge expense. So don’t hold your breath waiting for airfare to come down anytime soon. If you’re planning a trip, it may be better to focus on finding the best available fare rather than waiting for prices to magically drop.

For years, airline consultant Chris Russo has tried to win clients with a pitch about untapped ways to more effectively manage fuel. It has mostly fallen on deaf ears until now.

Then you head to the beach, where turquoise water meets soft sand and a swing gives you the perfect spot to take it all in.

No schedule. No rushing. Just sunshine, relaxation, and a little Caribbean escape.
