April wildflowers + golden hour sea stacks + a beach with nobody else on it. Yeah, we'll take it. This is Gold Beach right now and it's hard to argue with.

***Media Release***
Case #: S2026-00506

On April 2nd, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies, along with members from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Civil Department, responded to 2398 Broadway Ave, Unit N, North Bend, Oregon 97459 to process an eviction.

Upon arrival, deputies were met at the door by Jimmy R. Oiterong (37) of North Bend, who was in possession of a compound bow with an arrow notched and threatening to shoot Deputies. During the incident, deputies deployed less lethal rounds from a bean bag shotgun. Mr. Oiterong fired an arrow from his bow at deputies, nearly striking two of them.

The Coos County Emergency Response Team (ERT) responded to the location and deployed chemical munitions into the Unit. Jimmy R. Oiterong eventually fled out the back of the residence and was pursued by Officers and taken into custody with the assistance of a Coos Bay Police Department K9 Unit.

Mr. Oiterong was transported to Bay Area Hospital for medical evaluation and then to the Coos County Jail. Mr. Oiterong was booked on charges of Attempted Murder, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing, Elude on Foot, Resisting arrest and Reckless Endangering. Additional charges are possible.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the agencies that assisted and commend the Coos County Emergency Response Team on a safe and positive outcome to this situation.

“Police action is not indicative of guilt. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”

📱 New Alert, Same Goal: Keeping You Safe.

Starting today, the National Weather Service is updating the Tsunami Warning messages you receive on your cell phone. When every second counts, clarity is key! 🌊

The updated Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are now more direct:
✅ Clearer Instructions: "MOVE TO HIGH GROUND OR INLAND NOW."
✅ Urgent Tone: Emphasizes "life-threatening currents and waves."
✅ Stay Informed: Reminds you to stay away until officials give the "all clear."

and

🛑Removes language that said "You are in danger", as some tsunami alerts go well beyond intended recipients, creating confusion for those on safe, dry ground.

📱If your phone buzzes with that distinctive alert tone, don't wait. Follow the instructions immediately. 🏃‍♂️💨

You may also receive other Wireless Emergency Alerts from your community with instructions during a tsunami alert. This message is the only one sent by the National Weather Services Tsunami Warning Center.

🫵What YOU choose to do is always up to YOU. It starts with knowing if you're in a tsunami hazard zone. If you're in the zone, you should move. If you're not in the zone, there's no need to change locations. Alerts will still reach more people than necessary- again- you need to .

The National Weather Service's National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program made these changes at the request of and through collaboration with your State Emergency Management teams focused on tsunami safety for your community.

There is a high threat of sneaker waves from Fri. Nov. 21st through Sun. Nov. 23rd. Beachgoers and those participating in razor clam digs should exercise caution, avoid logs and jetties, and stay observant of incoming waves.
