Blue Turtle Cruising

Blue Turtle Cruising From keels to wheels, we're cruising through life! After 12+ years on a boat full-time, it's time to explore by RV. Welcome to Blue Turtle Cruising!

Our live aboard and cruising journey began in 2012 when we purchased a 40' DeFever Passagemaker trawler and named her Blue Turtle. Life was never the same after that. It turns out that life on the water and living minimally is quite spectacular. My husband, our son and our dog Sophie lived aboard Blue Turtle in Fort Myers Beach, FL for 9 years cruising her to local anchorages, the Florida Keys and

the Dry Tortugas. In pursuit of our next chapter, we sold Blue Turtle to a lovely couple in 2021 to purchase a sailboat. After 9 years of trawler life, we're ready for a new challenge - learning to sail!

We want to wish our sweet & sassy little sausage dog a very HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY!!! This little adventurer has been with Randy and I through every step of our journey from living aboard a trawler and sailboat for 12 years to now full time on an RV. We love you Sophie (a.k.a. Sassy Pants, Peanut, Sopheena-ro-weena) and hope to have many years left with you! ๐Ÿฅฐ ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’•

After our visits at the three national parks, it was time to head back East toward Florida. It was late October, 2025, and we had roughly 3 weeks to get to

After New Orleans, we planned to hop across Texas with a brief 2-night stay planned in San Angelo. First, we made a stop just before Houston for an overnight Harvest Host stay at Ceccoli Vineyards where we did a wine tasting. The next day, we made our way across Houston to another HH, Guadalupe Brewery, in New Braunfels, TX (just outside of San Antonio). From there, we went to San Angelo State Park and reserved 2 nights there. Unfortunately, we only got to stay one night as we were warned by a Ranger that they were expecting 3-inch hail the second night. There was a lot of wind expected as well, so we ended up leaving a day early and pushing up our other plans.

After 1 night in San Angelo, we headed northwest to Portales, NM, where we stayed at a fantastic winery called Enchantment Vineyards. They not only had excellent wine and local craft beer, but also alpacas as neighbors! After our evening at Enchanted Vineyards, we headed north to just outside Santa Fe, NM. There, we stayed at a Harvest Host that was a shopping strip of businesses called La Tienda at Eldorado. Randy needed a part for the RV so we visited the hardware store there, then we grabbed a couple of beers at Santa Fe Brewery. The next day, we headed north into Colorado....

After 2 nights in Pensacola visiting with my nephew, we headed to New Orleans. While Randy has been to The Big Easy many times for work and conferences, this was my first time. I had always wanted to visit NOLA ever since I read the Anne Rice series on the Vampire Chronicles and the Mayfair Witches. I love the history and charm of the French Quarter and it's architecture with the wrought-iron balconies and courtyards. We spent 2 nights at the New Orleans RV Resort & Marina and shuttled into the French Quarter. I will say that Bourbon Street is a bit like the Duval Crawl in Key West...2 days is more than enough time to explore. We had a blast checking out the historic landmarks, getting drinks on Bourbon Street and catching some amazing Blues music.

๐Ÿ“ธ 1: Enjoying some Hurricanes at Pat O'Briens
๐Ÿ“ธ 2: We visited the Cafe Du Monde
๐Ÿ“ธ 3: The St. Louis Cathedral
๐Ÿ“ธ 4: Bourbon Street
๐Ÿ“ธ 5: Having a Fireball at Bourbon Street Drinkery
๐Ÿ“ธ 6: The Cornet at Bourbon Street
๐Ÿ“ธ 7: Catching some great blues music
๐Ÿ“ธ 8: Selfie on Bourbon
๐Ÿ“ธ 9: The Gallier House, on Royal Street - Louis & Lestat's house in Interview with a Vampire
๐Ÿ“ธ 10: New Orleans RV Resort & Marina

After Lake City, we made another 2-night stop in Pensacola, FL. We had originally booked a site at Fort Pickens Campground right on the beach but had to cancel it at the last minute due to height restrictions (that I missed while booking) of the large trees there. We had to scramble last minute but thankfully found a place to stay so we could visit my nephew, Jack, and his girlfriend, Bella, who go to school at UWF. We met them for lunch and later visited with them at Bellaโ€™s work. It was so great seeing โ€œthe kidsโ€ and discussing their upcoming visit to Yellowstone.
