THE ASTRONAUTS ARE ALMOST HOME. THIS SAN JOSEAN'S MUSIC NEVER LEFT.

RIGHT NOW, four NASA astronauts are completing the Artemis II mission — the first humans to fly around the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972. They splash down tomorrow.

Perfect timing to introduce you to a San Jose original.

Tom Muller grew up in Willow Glen, went to Bellarmine, opened for the The Beach Boys at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, and played in bands that shared stages with Sonny & Cher, the Righteous Brothers, and the Beau Brummels. Sly Stone once filled in on bass at one of his recording sessions. He and his band backed Chuck Berry in a concert two major newspapers called one of the greatest rock shows of all time.

And for the past two decades, Tom has been composing Modern Space Music — four albums of original orchestral space music recorded with his Pecos Planetary Orchestra. His brand-new Volume 4, Voyage to Alpha Centauri, just dropped in 2026.

Great story,!

What a privilege it was to represent San Jose Rocks at San Jose State University's Spartans of Significance event on March 12.

The Doobie Brothers — Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston — received the university's Lifetime Achievement Award. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. Grammy winners. And genuinely two of the warmest, most gracious human beings you'll ever meet.

Getting quality time with Pat and Tom was the kind of moment that reminds me exactly why San Jose Rocks exists. The roots of one of America's greatest rock bands run deep right here in Silicon Valley — and that story deserves to be told.

Stay tuned. San Jose Rocks will be publishing a feature story soon on this San Jose original.
