🍂 TEENS — NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS FOR GRADUATION? 🍂

The Parker Homestead Fall Festival is coming up for two weekends in October, and we’re looking for some great young people who need to earn community service hours!

We could use extra hands with:

🚗 Parking lot assistance
🗑️ Helping keep the grounds clean & picking up trash
🏡 Helping at different stations throughout the Homestead
🙌 Other festival needs as they come up

This is a great opportunity to get your required service hours while being part of one of our favorite events of the year!

📚 Community service hours can be documented for your school.

If you’re interested — or if you have a teenager who needs hours — send the Parker Homestead page a message and we’ll get you signed up!

Did you all know Parker Homestead has a covered bridge?

The Parker’s traveled to Madison County to check out all the covered bridges to get some ideas to build one on the property.

After their visit they recreated one of them here at the Homestead.

Make sure to check it out when you come out to the Fall Festival the 2nd and 3rd weekends in October!

Happy Birthday to Teressa Parker! 🎉❤️

Pictured here doing what she loves most, sharing history with a group of field trip students last fall.

Many people may not know how Parker Homestead began.

Years ago, Teressa was a school teacher who wanted her students to experience history in a way that textbooks never could. She had a vision of creating a place where children could step back in time, see how people lived, worked, and learned, and truly experience our heritage firsthand.

That vision became Parker Homestead.

Today, every year before our Fall Festival, Parker Homestead dedicates six special days to welcoming thousands of students, teachers, and parents. They come to learn traditional skills, explore history, and experience what life was like “back in the day.”

What started as one teacher’s dream has impacted countless children and families throughout our community.

Happy Birthday, Teressa! Thank you for your vision, your passion for education, and for creating a place where history comes alive for generations to come.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Did you all know that the Post Office building out at the Parker Homestead came from Harlan Hurd in Bono, Arkansas.

It has a George Washington Printing Press in it, it came from Marshall, Arkansas.

The post office boxes came from right here from the Whitehall post office that closed in 1962.
