Jody Tomsello, local photographer and participant in the Herington Area Creatives Guild, captured the dedication ceremony for the locomotive art sculptures and the new mural.

Despite having to reschedule the dedication due to a morning downpour, there was a good turnout of citizens and Throttle Jockeys car club members who brought their vintage cars to show off, complimenting James Bryant’s “Auto-mobilia” mural.

Mercedes McDowell shared her inspiration for the “Bison in a Field of Sunflowers” steam locomotive style art sculpture, her love as a child of all animals. Jim’s “Bit of Herington” modern-style locomotive art sculpture displays the history of Herington and his memories of the local landmarks of his youth.

These works were made possible by a ‘Rural Mural’ grant and the Visit Herington! Public Art Fund and all of the individuals and organizations that contributed to the creation of these works of Public Art, including but not limited to:
* Office of Rural Prosperity, Kansas Department of Commerce
* Arts Council of Dickinson County
* City of Herington
* Herington Public Library
* The Checkered Flag
* The Throttle Jockeys
* Numerous individuals who donated materials and time

Jim is making good progress on the Automobilia mural and is enjoying today’s respite from the heat! He credits VR for saving him a lot of time laying out his design. After getting the major features done he’ll use an airbrush to fill in details.
