🌟 Business of the Week: Barley & Vine 🌟

This week's Business of the Week is Barley & Vine, a quaint, cozy, and eclectic wine and beer shop right in the heart of Downtown Hertford!

Surrounded by wonderful local shops, Barley & Vine is the perfect pit stop to fuel up in the middle of a shopping day — or a convenient spot for locals to swing by on their way home to relax and grab some goodies to take with them. Whether you're looking to enjoy a glass of wine, a beer on tap, or a soda in good company, you'll find a warm welcome.

What makes Barley & Vine special is the experience. It's a place to discover a new favorite beverage from a thoughtfully curated selection of local and international options. It's a place to find fun snacks and goodies you won't see everywhere. It's a place where everyone walks in as a guest and leaves as a friend.

They currently have 4 beers on tap — including cider, IPA, and ales (with local options!). Their wine selection is extensive, featuring Moscato, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet, Malbec, Prosecco, and everything in between. They also carry a large selection of beer, including local brews, ciders, international favorites, and so much more.

Customer favorites include Salt of the Earth, Oliver wines, Farmhouse, Sun Garden, Cackalacky, and Saranac products — and they're always adding new options to discover!

🍉 Lilah Byrum — 2026 North Carolina Watermelon Queen

Lilah Byrum of Tyner, NC is serving as this year's North Carolina Watermelon Queen, and she's been busy making a difference in communities across our state!

Growing up on a family cattle operation and surrounded by row crop production, Lilah developed a deep appreciation for agriculture early on. Now a Crop and Soil Sciences major at NC State, she's turning that background into action — educating consumers, visiting schools, and showing up at festivals, farmers markets, and retail events to share the story of North Carolina's watermelon growers.

She's also meeting with industry leaders and legislators to advocate for the hardworking farm families who put food on our tables. Whether she's talking to a classroom full of kids or speaking with lawmakers, Lilah's goal is the same — helping people understand where their food comes from and the incredible work our farmers do every day.

We're grateful for the energy and passion she's bringing to communities across North Carolina this year! Check out these facts about watermelons from Lilah below!
