Hello from HSGC! Meet our Parliamentarian Kasie Teel!

-How long have you lived in Holly Springs/the Holly Springs area? I am a lifelong resident of
Holly Springs. My husband and I were both born and raised here, and we come from families with deep roots in the community that span multiple generations. We have chosen to make Holly Springs our home throughout our lives and have raised our children here as well.

- Tell us about your family. I am married to Colter Teel. We have two daughters - Maggie
Lynn and Millie. Maggie Lynn is a recent 2026 graduate of Marshall Academy and was one of 2026 Pilgrimage Queens for the Holly Springs Garden Club. Millie is a rising Senior and will graduate from Marshall Academy in 2027.

-What are things you/you and your family enjoy doing? Our family enjoys traveling. The beach is one of our favorite places. I also enjoy gardening, reading, and needlepointing.

- How long have you served in the Holly Springs Garden Club? This will be my 3rd year to serve in the Holly Springs Garden Club

-What is your favorite HSGC event and why? Girls Summer Nights Out are some of my
favorite HSGC events because they are always fun, creative, and perfectly on trend. I love how each event combines a unique theme with engaging activities and great food. Most of all, I enjoy the opportunity for women from across the community to come together, connect, laugh, and have a good time. The energy and camaraderie at these events make them something I look forward to every year.

family and friends, attending church followed by a Sunday meal with family, and enjoying
my yard and gardening. Simple moments with loved ones make for the best weekends.

-What is the best piece of advice you have been given/would give to others? The best advice
I've been given and would give to others is to do hard things well. Life is full of challenges, and I've learned that the way we approach those challenges matters. Whether at work, at home, or in the community, I believe in giving my best effort, even when the task is difficult. Doing hard things well builds character, exercises your faith, creates opportunities for growth, and often leads to the most rewarding accomplishments.

-What is your favorite flower/plant? I have many favorite flowers and plants, so it's hard to
choose just one. If I had to pick, I would say hydrangeas. Two of the hydrangeas in my
yard were rooted from plants that belonged to family members, which makes them especially meaningful to me. Each year when they bloom, they put on a beautiful display and serve as a reminder of the people who shared them with me

Hello from HSGC! Today, get to know the HSGC Treasurer, Kassie McAlexander!

-How long have you lived in Holly Springs/ the Holly Springs area?
I moved to Holly Springs in 2018 when my husband and I built our forever home on his family land.

-Tell us about your family.
I am married to Jeff McAlexander, a Holly Springs native, and together we have two children. Our son, Collins, is 8 and will be entering the 3rd grade, and our daughter, Martha “Marti” Kay, is 5 and heading into Kindergarten. We are members of Holly Springs First Methodist Church. My husband and I both attended Mississippi State University — Hail State! — and now both work in the agriculture industry.

-What are things you/ you and your family enjoy doing?
Anything outdoors! We love spending time around our farm — checking cows, riding the SxS, grilling out. We also enjoy spending time at the beach, lake, or river. Really, anything that gets us outside and together as a family. I also enjoy cooking, vegetable gardening, canning, and (according to my husband) shopping!

-How long have you served in the Holly Springs Garden Club?
I have been a member since 2023.

-What is your favorite HSGC event and why?
I love our summer GNOs, but I would have to say my favorite event is the Pilgrimage Sunday Brunch. As the final event of the Pilgrimage weekend, it feels like such a refreshing and rewarding ending to a long weekend. Having chaired it for the past three years, I love seeing guests enjoy all the hard work that goes into it and finding ways to bring something new to the table each year. I also have an amazing committee and truly enjoy working alongside them.

-What are you watching on Netflix right now?
“Worst Ex Ever” - True crime ju**ie!
But my husband and I stay current on all the Yellowstone series and spin-offs on Paramount, so currently watching "Marshals" and "Dutton Ranch."

-What book are you reading right now/ the last book you read?
Currently reading: whatever coffee table book I happen to pick up! I’m a little out of my reading phase at the moment.
The last book I attempted to read was The Frozen River. I didn’t finish it, but it was getting really good, so it’s definitely on my list to go back to.

-What is a guilty pleasure you have?
Watching reality TV and true crime documentaries — and constantly finding new projects to take on.

-Describe your perfect weekend.
Spending time with my family — either somewhere near the water (the beach, lake, or river) or simply at home with absolutely no plans.

-What is the best piece of advise you have been given/ would give to others?
“If a string is in a knot, patience will untie it. Patience can do anything — have you ever tried it?” That was something my Nana (great-grandmother) used to say. I always try to remember to slow down, be patient, and trust that things will work out, even when it’s hard to see in the moment.

-What is your favorite flower/ plant?
Hydrangeas and peonies.

Hello from HSGC Vice President Jessica Hughes!

- How long have you lived in Holly Springs/the Holly Springs area?
I’ve lived in the Byhalia area for 44 years…my whole life besides the 4 glorious years at Mississippi State.

- Tell us about your family.
I’m an 8th generation Marshall Countian. My husband, Kevin, and I have been married for almost 18 years. We have 4 children, 3 boys and a girl. I enjoy working along side my dad and two brothers at our family business, Woods Farm Supply. We’ve been in business since 1953 when my great grandaddy, J.P. Woods purchased Watson Gin Company.

-What are things you/you and your family enjoy doing?
We love to spend our time fishing, riding 4 wheelers, and watching the kids play all the ball…baseball, softball, basketball, and football.

- How long have you served in the Holly Springs Garden Club?
10 years

-What is your favorite HSGC event and why?
Pilgrimage is and has always been my favorite. That is what made me want to be a part of this wonderful group of ladies. I served as a little girl at my great-great uncle and aunt’s home, Roger and Jane Woods’ home, Crump Place. I’ve been in love with the beauty and history of Holly Springs and her antebellum homes for as long as I can remember.

-What are you watching on Netflix right now? Dawson’s Creek has been playing in the background on Netflix. Although I was a sophomore in high school when it came out, I never really watched much of it. I’m always watching Mountain Monsters on HBOMax with the kids…don’t knock it till you try it🤭

-What book are you reading right now/the last book you read?
Running the Line by Schyleen Qualls…based on a true story that takes place in Marshall County in 1918

-What is a guilty pleasure you have?
Playing Ms. PacMan or Galaga and not letting the kids have a turn anytime we visit an arcade🤭

-Describe your perfect weekend.
My perfect weekend is having absolutely nothing planned and just seeing what the day brings.

-What is the best piece of advice you have been given/would give to others?
Don’t sweat the small stuff!
Always be sweet!
Seek God first in everything you do. He will never lead you astray!

-What is your favorite flower/plant?
Pink peonies, yellow roses, coneflowers, and my all time favorite, magnolia grandiflora, the southern magnolia

This week, we are introducing the HSGC Officers for the 2026-2027 club year via our “Hello from HSGC” series!

First up, Hello from HSGC President Callie Shaffer!

How long have you lived in Holly Springs/the Holly Springs area?
I have lived in the Holly Springs area for 14 years.

Tell us about your family.
I live in Waterford with my husband, Adam, our two sons, Mack (10) and Ace (7), and our Australian Shepherd, Delta. Our boys attend Marshall Academy, and we are active members of Spring Hill Baptist Church.

What are things you and your family enjoy doing?
We enjoy just about anything outdoors! Whether it’s playing sports, riding side-by-sides, horseback riding, or spending time on the boat, we love being active and making memories together. We definitely don’t sit still for long!

How long have you served in the Holly Springs Garden Club?
I have been a member of the Holly Springs Garden Club for 9 years.

What is your favorite HSGC event and why?
Pilgrimage Weekend is my favorite HSGC event. I love the energy and excitement it brings to our town. Meeting visitors from across the country and sharing the history of Holly Springs and Montrose is so fun. It’s a busy, fast-paced weekend, but it’s always so much fun and one of the highlights of the year.

What are you watching on Netflix right now?
I’m currently watching the Lainey Wilson documentary—something that won’t surprise anyone who knows me!

What book are you reading right now/the last book you read?
Right now, I’m reading the I Survived series with my boys. It’s been a great way to spend time together.

What is a guilty pleasure you have?
Shopping! I have a weakness for trying the latest viral trends.

Describe your perfect weekend.
My perfect weekend would start with sleeping in and waking up to find all the laundry and housework magically finished! After that, I’d spend the day with my boys and end the evening enjoying dinner with friends at our favorite local Mexican restaurant.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given or would give to others?
The best advice I have ever received—and try to live by—is the Golden Rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. And never forget that Jesus loves you.

What is your favorite flower or plant?
My favorite flower is the gardenia. My grandmother had gardenias planted all around her home, and their fragrance always reminds me of visiting her as a child. I now have several gardenia bushes at my own home that were rooted from hers, making them especially meaningful to me.
