Hello from HSGC! Today, get to know the HSGC Treasurer, Kassie McAlexander!
-How long have you lived in Holly Springs/ the Holly Springs area?
I moved to Holly Springs in 2018 when my husband and I built our forever home on his family land.
-Tell us about your family.
I am married to Jeff McAlexander, a Holly Springs native, and together we have two children. Our son, Collins, is 8 and will be entering the 3rd grade, and our daughter, Martha “Marti” Kay, is 5 and heading into Kindergarten. We are members of Holly Springs First Methodist Church. My husband and I both attended Mississippi State University — Hail State! — and now both work in the agriculture industry.
-What are things you/ you and your family enjoy doing?
Anything outdoors! We love spending time around our farm — checking cows, riding the SxS, grilling out. We also enjoy spending time at the beach, lake, or river. Really, anything that gets us outside and together as a family. I also enjoy cooking, vegetable gardening, canning, and (according to my husband) shopping!
-How long have you served in the Holly Springs Garden Club?
I have been a member since 2023.
-What is your favorite HSGC event and why?
I love our summer GNOs, but I would have to say my favorite event is the Pilgrimage Sunday Brunch. As the final event of the Pilgrimage weekend, it feels like such a refreshing and rewarding ending to a long weekend. Having chaired it for the past three years, I love seeing guests enjoy all the hard work that goes into it and finding ways to bring something new to the table each year. I also have an amazing committee and truly enjoy working alongside them.
-What are you watching on Netflix right now?
“Worst Ex Ever” - True crime ju**ie!
But my husband and I stay current on all the Yellowstone series and spin-offs on Paramount, so currently watching "Marshals" and "Dutton Ranch."
-What book are you reading right now/ the last book you read?
Currently reading: whatever coffee table book I happen to pick up! I’m a little out of my reading phase at the moment.
The last book I attempted to read was The Frozen River. I didn’t finish it, but it was getting really good, so it’s definitely on my list to go back to.
-What is a guilty pleasure you have?
Watching reality TV and true crime documentaries — and constantly finding new projects to take on.
-Describe your perfect weekend.
Spending time with my family — either somewhere near the water (the beach, lake, or river) or simply at home with absolutely no plans.
-What is the best piece of advise you have been given/ would give to others?
“If a string is in a knot, patience will untie it. Patience can do anything — have you ever tried it?” That was something my Nana (great-grandmother) used to say. I always try to remember to slow down, be patient, and trust that things will work out, even when it’s hard to see in the moment.
-What is your favorite flower/ plant?
Hydrangeas and peonies.
