It was Breaching Class day here in Tonga! We were overwhelmed to see this big mama humpback breach—and overjoyed to see the baby getting the hang of it!

We’ve had the great good fortune to snorkel with humpback whales in Tonga over the past two weeks! 🇹🇴 💙🐋 This was our encounter on Wednesday which still has my jaw on the floor 🥹

Tonga’s warm, protected waters serve as a nursery for humpback whales from July through October, when they migrate here to give birth and nurse their calves. We have been lucky enough to snorkel with a few mamas and calves–little “babies” that already weigh over 2 tons and are 5 meters (16 feet) long.

Interactions here are tightly regulated: just one licensed boat, one guide, and four swimmers are permitted with a whale at any given time.

Humpbacks are famous for their songs, sung by males and heard for miles underwater. We recorded the sound here on one of our days (not the same time as the baby and mama you see!)

We were driving around Samoa’s coastal road when we caught this pig and dog playing playing playing! We only caught the last few seconds but it’s pretty much the most precious thing we’ve ever seen!
