Another July review:

This place was in a great location close to beaches with beautiful snorkeling. Food in town did not feel very far as well as shopping.

Snorkeling and beach equipment was all provided.

The property and garden was beautiful and was private enough for us. Lots of mosquitoes though, and mosquito repellents were provided.

Not the most kitchen space and minimal dishware but it worked out for us. Clean sheets and extra blankets were provided.

Screen windows were awesome and made us feel like we were living in a tropical paradise. However, some bugs will get inside, this may just be the case in Hawai’i.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for hosting us! Mahalo

Tropical Hideaway note: We have had an unusual amount of rain for several months, which increases the mosquito population dramatically. And summer has more insects than other times of the year.

New July review:

Kathleen was great, clear and easeful process. We loved how she had a closet full of beach going supplies that made it like a home away from home. The open air nature of this listing is an important thing to notice. The humidity of the lush surroundings are felt in the space because screens are all that separate you from the outside. Which is really wonderful in a lot of ways. We liked the sounds of life around us and it didn’t stop us from sleeping well. The mosquitoes were real, but it was totally possible to protect oneself within the screened in area.

Kathleen's place is exactly as described and offers a unique island experience. Peaceful, beautiful surroundings, private. Kathleen was friendly, always responsive, and gave us local recommendations. Five stars!

Another May review:

Relaxing and had everything we needed to cook and recreate. Jungle setting and elevation made it great for sleeping - cooler and the short bits of rain were great! Could smell flowers from hot tub. Appreciated the garden/jungle setting with views down to ocean from backyard. Wonderful location since we love snorkeling. Two Step and great snorkeling nearby. Painted church within walking distance was wonderful and so inviting! Another amazing thing was having the fresh bread stand at the bottom of the driveway. You gotta try the Ube and white chocolate chip cookies! We hope to be return guests!!

A May review:

The house was cozy and comfortable. We loved the outdoor shower & whirlpool bath. Kathleen was very friendly, she explained everything in the house and gave us a warm welcome. There was fresh fruit from the garden for us every day! We would definitly recommend this place!

Kathleen’s place is beautiful and very comfortable and the property is vibrant! She has everything you could want and/or need. It feels like you’re living in Hawai’i and not just a guest. Super close to a fantastic snorkel spot. The outdoor shower is amazing!

April Review:

Five Stars! Glamping at its finest, is what we were looking for and Kathleen delivered it without a doubt! Surrounded by the sounds of the Island with the comforts of home, yet still feeling like you are out in the middle of it all. This place is one of the big reasons we love coming to the Islands for vacation from it all.

Another February review:

Kathy’s Tropical Hideaway is just that. A private space in a lush garden, it is so relaxing that once you’re there you won’t want to leave. We had everything we needed for a weeks’ stay, including the benefit of a big closet full of all things ‘beach’. Boogie boards, snorkel equipment, umbrella and chairs. It is such a bonus to not have to drag those things with you. Kathy was so accommodating to any request and also respected our privacy. She and the other’s living on the property are friendly and informative, but will give you the space to be alone. The bed was comfy, the hot tub was clean and inviting, the outdoor shower had lots of hot water, and the breezes were wonderful. Ask Kathy to see her photo studio where she has examples of her work for sale. She is a very talented photographer and uses many different styles. Our advice is to bring earplugs for nighttime. You get used to the wildlife sounds, but if you’re sensitive to noise, you’ll want them. We can’t wait to go back!

February review:

We loved the atmosphere of this great, laid back place. So fun for us as a couple. Location is easy to access, a little cooler than sea level, pleasantly breezy, close enough to play at numerous beaches, and visit the entire island. You have plenty of privacy, but Kathy the host, and Mark, the caretaker are quickly accessible and ready to help when needed. Friendly, willing to offer suggestions. Yes there are insects, frogs, and roosters talking at times, but we found them funny and relaxing after the initial introduction. Facilities are completely adequate for preparing meals when you want to. Bed is comfortable. Outdoor shower and hot tub were fun.Really, our stay felt magical, relaxed, and thoroughly enjoyable. We both loved it and hope to return next year.

Another December review:

Kathleen was a great host. Her tropical getaway was a peaceful oasis where we could fall asleep to the coqui frogs and wake up to roosters. It was a shared space with people living upstairs and on the land but still felt VERY private. You definitely get a hefty dose of nature but luckily all the bugs and animals stayed outside of the living quarters, which was really great. We asked for more coffee at one point and she made sure she brought us some and was very proactive in taking care of our needs and ensuring we had the best possible stay. This was a very desirable home away from home for us to enjoy our beautiful vacation.
