Summer at Universal Orlando is busy. Epic Universe is still drawing the kind of demand that comes with being one of the most talked-about theme park openings in years. If you're heading there in June, July, or August, I want to give you an honest picture of what to expect — because the families who struggle are almost always the ones who didn't see it coming.

Super Nintendo World and Ministry of Magic are the highest demand areas in Epic Universe right now. Build your day around those two lands first thing in the morning. Everything else is more manageable once the early rush settles.

Early entry is one of the most valuable tools available in summer. If you have a Universal hotel stay, use every minute of it. The first hour before general admission opens covers more ground than the following three hours combined. At Epic Universe in summer, rope drop is the closest thing to a breathing room experience you're going to find.

Universal Express Pass matters significantly more in summer than at any other time of year. This is not the season to skip and hope standby lines are reasonable. Factor one into your budget before you go — which one depends on your family, but going without either in peak summer is a choice that will cost you time you can't get back.

Busy doesn't mean not worth it. It means plan accordingly.

She came to me ready to book Walt Disney World. Everyone told her that's where you take your kids while they're young enough to truly love it. She wasn't wrong to want it. But as we talked, it became clear that Walt Disney World wasn't actually the right trip for her family right now.

Short travel window. A relaxed, slower travel style. A budget that wasn't the right fit for Walt Disney World done the way it deserves to be done.

I talked to her about Disneyland instead. Smaller footprint, easier to experience in the time she had, full Disney magic — but scaled to what her family actually needed. She was open to it. And then she mentioned that her kids were completely obsessed with Cars.

Radiator Springs Racers. Carsland. None of that exists at Walt Disney World. The trip she almost booked would have missed the thing her kids would have loved most.
That detail didn't come from a questionnaire. It came from a conversation — the kind where I'm listening for what's actually important, not just confirming what someone already decided.

That's the difference between booking a trip and planning one. Anyone can put dates on a calendar. My job is to figure out what your family actually needs from this particular trip and make sure you come home having gotten it.

Most families book a 4-night Disney cruise first and I completely understand why. Lower commitment, lower cost, and it delivers the full Disney Cruise Line experience — rotational dining, Castaway Cay, the shows, the character interactions. It's the right introduction for most families.

But there's a significant difference between a 4-night sailing and a 7-night — and it's not just the number of days.

On a short sailing, you spend the first day finding your footing on the ship. By the time your family has settled in, you're already close to the end. On a 7-night, that settling-in period is the beginning, not the whole trip. Night three on a longer sailing is when families stop thinking about the ship and start actually living on it.

Sea days are where Disney Cruise Line earns its reputation. The shows, the deck activities, the complete absence of anywhere to be. A 4-night gives you one or two of those days. A 7-night gives you enough that your family actually experiences what cruising feels like when there's no schedule to keep.

The itineraries open up too. Longer sailings reach ports and destinations that shorter sailings simply can't get to — and the destinations start to become part of the trip rather than just a backdrop.

First sailing or younger kids, I start most families short. If you've already sailed and loved it, or if you have older kids who need more than two port days to feel like they went somewhere — a 7-night is almost always the right next step. The experience isn't just longer. It's genuinely different.

Walt Disney World dining reservations open 60 days before your arrival date. Most families don't find that out until they're already behind — and by then, the restaurants they actually wanted are fully booked.

This is one of the most common planning gaps I see, and it's completely avoidable.
The most sought-after dining experiences at Walt Disney World — Be Our Guest, Cinderella's Royal Table, Space 220, and others — book out within hours of that 60-day window opening. Not days. Hours. Families who find out about the window after the fact are left with whatever didn't sell, which is rarely what they had in mind for a trip they spent months saving for.

Here's how I handle it for every client: the decisions are made well in advance, the calendar alert is set, and the morning that window opens I'm booking — not browsing. By the time most people are logging in to look around, my clients already have their tables.

If you're planning a Walt Disney World trip on your own, the process is the same. Know your dates, count back 60 days, have your Disney account set up and your restaurant priorities decided before that morning arrives. Set the alarm and be ready early.

It sounds like a lot. It is — which is exactly why having someone handle it for you changes the experience entirely.

Eight family members. Ages 35 to 80. A 70th birthday and an 80th birthday to celebrate. Several of them had never traveled internationally before. And one family member who had a question about every single decision I made throughout the planning process.

This was not a simple trip to put together — and it was one of the most meaningful ones I've planned.

The concerns going in were real. How do you manage the logistics of eight people in Paris? How do you take care of family members stepping outside their country for the first time? How do you build an itinerary that works for everyone from 35 to 80? The answer to all of it is the same: carefully, and with enough flexibility built in that the trip can breathe.
