This family goes to Disney together every year. This time, they wanted to bring Grandma and that one change reshaped how we planned the whole trip.

Transportation came first. We booked the Contemporary specifically for the monorail access as well as a walkway to Magic Kingdom and an easy ride to everywhere else. Then we rented an ECV, because May heat is no joke and nobody wanted Grandma wearing herself out trying to keep pace with everyone else.

We also added two extra rest days. Real recovery time between parks, plus more time just enjoying the resort together as a family. And when it came to dining, we booked more reservations in one day than this family would normally choose not just because every single one was something Grandma was genuinely excited about but also to give them a slower park day pace.

This trip wasn't planned around the parks. It was planned around her. They wanted this one to be everything, because trips like this together don't come around often.

One day at Epic Universe without Express Pass is completely doable. It just isn't forgiving about the order you do things in.

Early entry is where the day is won. It's a full hour, and more gets done in it than in any three hours later. One thing to check before you go: Universal rotates which lands open for early entry, so confirm what's on your dates rather than trusting a guide from six months ago.

Start with whichever of Super Nintendo World or the Ministry of Magic you've got. Both are all-day popular and both are friendlier for a mixed-age group than a launch coaster first thing. Stardust Racers can wait until you've banked one of the big ones.

The rule I'd hold onto: crowding matters more than posted wait. Battle at the Ministry queues longer, but Super Nintendo World is the busier land from open to close, and that's the one that costs you an afternoon.

Then take an indoor break twice. Isle of Berk at midday for the Untrainable dragon show, then The Wizarding World at Café L'air de la Sirène for dinner. Sit down, cool off, and go back out for Dark Universe once the light drops.

Let's talk about the part of working with a travel advisor nobody likes to say out loud. If I book your Disney package, you lose the ability to call and change it yourself. The reservation sits under my access, not yours.

That's true, and I'd rather you know it upfront than feel surprised by it later.

Here's what you get for it. Email during working hours gets a same-day response. Someone to do all the changes, promotion application, sitting on hold so you don't have to. While you're actually traveling, you get my cell number because a problem at 9pm on vacation shouldn't mean fighting with an underpaid front desk worker who is just as confused as you as.

You give up a full control of the package but you gain a person who already knows your whole trip and handles things you didn't even know needed handling. I think that's a good trade, I'm just not going to pretend it isn't a trade.

Disney Cruise Line isn't just for people traveling with kids.

Genuinely.

Yes, it's the #1 family cruise line but adult-only spaces are built into every ship. Lounges that close to kids after a certain hour. Adult-only dining rooms, some with Michelin-star chefs. A section of the pool deck that's adults only. And the spa's rainforest room, which might be my favorite quiet spot on any ship afloat.

Traveling without kids doesn't mean settling for a "kids' cruise line." It means you get all of that, plus the service and polish Disney is known for.

Here's a Disney day the way I actually build it for clients, not hour-by-hour but a real plan.

Arrive an hour before official park opening. Get scanned in early and head straight to whichever ride matters most to your family (that part changes family to family), which is exactly what our planning call sorts out. Front-load your Lightning Lane selections so the big ones are done by noon and you land naturally at lunch.

Depending on your kids' ages, we head back to the resort around 2 or 3 for a real break. Then back out for more rides and fireworks from a spot I actually recommend, not the crowded default. I hand every client a map with my preferred viewing locations for Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

And the piece nobody plans for: wait at least 30 minutes after the fireworks end before you try to leave. Let the crowd thin out. It saves your whole night.

This family has been with me for years, and they have never once been to the same resort twice.

The pattern is Mexico, every other summer, during school break. Not because anything went wrong anywhere but because there are so many genuinely good resorts and they'd rather try a variety before they settle on a favorite. Most families find one they love and rebook it. This one auditions them.

Which means every trip is a fresh recommendation rather than a repeat booking, and the bar moves up each time.

The real constraint isn't the beach or the pool photos. It's five people in one room, with three kids under twelve. That rules out more places than you'd think, and it's where the search actually starts.

This year was Cancun and it was a highlight — a proper waterpark, and a kids club with enough going on that all three kids had a great time. Not one bored kid trailing behind two happy ones.

I'm already thinking about where they go next.

A Disney Cruise sea day, the version where you do almost none of it.

Up whenever. The gym while the ship is still quiet, then the buffet — easy, nothing booked. Shower, then open the app and read a schedule so full you could fill every hour of the day. Then decide you're not going to.

Balcony, book, an hour that belongs to nobody. Donald and Daisy before lunch because they're the actual reason you're here. Donald's Cantina on the pool deck if you're on a Wish-class ship, or a burrito bowl. A new release in a real cinema in the middle of the ocean, which nobody believes until they've done it.

Then back up for an ice cream and whatever's on Funnel Vision, and back to the stateroom to change — because your show lands before dinner tonight, and that wasn't luck, that was your seating being set up that way.

There's a schedule so you never have to be bored. Knowing which things are worth showing up for, and which you can skip guilt-free, is the part I handle.
