Hi, I’m Arielle. I spend my life traveling through Greenland’s remote ice and communities, sharing my stories with anyone who wants to see what lies beneath the surface. For years, I’ve kept thousands of photos to myself and now I’m finally going to share them. We made it to the US on time. Security was great and efficient. Well done to Greenland Airports and United. They even served a delicious omelette that was surprisingly tasty. No mobile passport control so we are now motivated to get T’s Global Entry approved. Missing Greenland but I miss our precious doggies Didier and Amélie most.

Kangerlussuaq was good to us this year. Butik Sara closed and had a sale of 50-75% off for Canada Goose jackets and Fjallraven. The entire store including Greenland’s own Bibi Chemnitz and Isaksen Design, which was 75% off and I’ve been eyeing those for many years. I bought another Goose and they live in Ilulissat with my friend (the other one is in Ittoqqortoormiit) so I am covered. I don’t want to bring heavy clothes with me to Greenland so I keep them here. I bought the poncho of 100% qiviut today from Niviarsiaq. It spoke to me and I think the time was right. Greenland is pricey but there are deals to be found if you’re patient. Facebook marketplace is also a good way to get second hand items and artwork as well. Cheers!

When you’re stuck in Kangerlussuaq, you can go across from the airport to Niviarsiaq Art where the proprietor Anita can be seen making 50g bundles of qiviut wool from muskoxen. The softest and warmest wool on earth. The current price is 690.- DKK per 50g. Most people will need 100g to make something significant. Expensive but incredible stuff. I have many pieces that I’ve collected over the years. Many from Niviarsiaq but some from Ittoqqortoormiit for deep winter. Three new pieces from my friend Julie in Sisimiut. It’s the quintessential keepsake from Greenland if you visit! I personally like the tubes / gaiters best.

We made the best of a bad situation and had an epic day in Kangerlussuaq. 7 hour tour to ice cap, doggie cuddle tour, and then delicious buffet at Restaurant Roklubben. It was muddy and I stepped in dog 💩 but I was able to remediate the situation quite quickly. Although I’ve been to Kangerlussuaq countless times, the experiences in 2025 July and August were the best. We saw a small herd of Muskox, birds of prey, a reindeer, a huge Arctic Hare. New friends from all over the world and wonderful memories. Let’s see if the plane comes today since it is snowing in Nuuk. Stay tuned!

Flight cancelled. 50 kt winds in Nuuk with very low clouds. We will probably be stuck until Monday in Kangerlussuaq, a favorite town in the Arctic Circle region of Greenland. Perhaps we can go look for muskoxen tomorrow and enjoy the Restaurant Roklubben tonight, with freshly hunted reindeer and muskoxen on the menu. I’m actually relieved to be in a comfy bed and nothing to worry about.

Finally! I feel much closer to the ice now and how the texture and lakes and rivers form on the surface. It’s not all jagged and some of it looks like the surface of another planet. I was able to do something I’ve always wanted to do: Air Zafari Ilulissat sightseeing flight. We did the master explorer and it was expensive but totally worth it. We saw Eqi Glacier from above and then the most iconic parts of the Icefjord. Highly recommended for anyone interested in ice.

Coming in 3rd place at the annual Easter dog sled race in Ittoqqortoormiit. I had never had the patience to wait in the cold but the celebration that followed was amazing. The dogs were also treated to a small feast!
