“LET ’EM SLEEP.”
Sarah Jakes Roberts said it, and I have learned to live it.
Let them sleep on your vision.
Let them underestimate your reach.
Let them question your ability.
Let them overlook your name.
Let them leave you off the invitation list.
Let them give the opportunity to somebody else.
LET. THEM. SLEEP.
Because one thing I have learned is that validation is not a prerequisite for elevation.
And as Kash Doll reminds us through her Kash Kommandments, there comes a point when you have to move differently. Protect your energy. Know your worth. Stop explaining yourself. Handle your business. Keep your standards high. And most importantly, never shrink yourself to make other people comfortable.
I stopped waiting for people to see what I already knew God placed inside of me.
I stopped asking for seats at tables where my value had to be explained.
I stopped believing that being overlooked meant I was unqualified.
Sometimes being overlooked is simply your permission to build your own table, create your own lane, and take up space somewhere bigger.
Now, I am preparing to take the stage in Dubai as a keynote speaker for the NEXT Women Power Leadership Congress.
Houston to Dubai.
That sentence alone reminds me why you cannot allow someone else’s inability to recognize your capacity to become the ceiling for your life.
Some doors closed.
Some invitations never came.
Some people watched without supporting.
Some underestimated me.
And some are still sleeping.
That’s okay.
Because while they were sleeping, I was building.
While they were questioning, I was working.
While they were overlooking, I was preparing.
While they were talking, I was becoming.
So here’s my own addition to the commandments:
Know your worth.
Protect your peace.
Handle your business.
Never beg for a seat.
Create the opportunity.
Walk in your purpose.
And when they sleep on you…LET ’EM SLEEP.
The alarm clock is not your responsibility.
