What an incredible gift!

What an incredible gift!

Ruth Levy Gottesman, a 93‑year‑old widow and emerita pediatrics professor, announced a historic $1 billion gift to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York City's poorest borough. She inherited the endowment from her late husband, David “Sandy” Gottesman, an early Berkshire Hathaway investor. In his passing in 2022, Ruth received a portfolio valued at roughly $1 billion and, honoring his request to “do whatever you think is right,” chose to channel the funds into something transformative.

This unprecedented endowment makes medical school tuition-free forever at Einstein. It reimburses spring 2024 tuition for current fourth-year students and ensures future cohorts are exempt from paying from August onward. At a yearly cost of over $59,000 and with average U.S. med‑school debt nearing $202,000, this gift removes financial barriers, encouraging a more diverse and socially committed physician workforce. Dr. Yaron Tomer of Einstein noted the gift “radically revolutionizes our ability to continue attracting students who are committed to our mission.

📢 Let’s spread this incredible story of kindness, vision, and impact.
Share it, talk about it, and let it inspire more good in the world.

💛 “It's one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, to forgive.” — Dr. Maya Angelou

On this Global Forgiveness Day, we are reminded that forgiveness is not weakness — it’s freedom. It is the quiet courage to release pain, not for the sake of others, but for the sake of your peace.

Dr. Maya Angelou believed in the healing power of forgiveness, not to excuse injustice, but to free ourselves from the weight of anger and resentment. Letting go is not forgetting. It’s choosing not to be bound by what broke you.

Today, we invite you to reflect:
🌿 Who can you release from your spirit?
🌿 What do you need to let go of to grow forward?

Thank you for his bravery
