Surf City Foodies is soo sad to hear of the closing of wharf.
One of the most amazing restaurants we have dined in here in the OC.
So many priceless dining memories here thank you Walts Wharf

Dear Guests and Friends of Walt’s Wharf,

We are living through unprecedented times. It is with great sadness, that we are forced to announce the closing of Walt’s Wharf, which has been serving you and Seal Beach for 50 years.

When fears of COVID-19 reached the USA, we initially undertook extra safety and cleaning methods, created 6 foot spacing between customer tables, etc., so that we could continue to serve you. However, shortly thereafter, Governor Gavin Newsom, and our local governments, ordered all California restaurants to cease dine-in services. We, like many other restaurants throughout the State, attempted to restrict our services to takeout and delivery, drastically cutting our staff to a minimum in an attempt to continue to operate in these uncertain times.

Last night, Governor Gavin Newsom deployed the National Guard to food banks in California yesterday to assist with the distribution of food. There are news reports saying the Federal Government is considering a more aggressive plan to require everyone to “stay at home”. Gavin Newsom has stated that his ordered closures will continue for the “foreseeable future”. These unprecedented actions are devastating for many of us.

We have given all of this a lot of thought, and concluded that we cannot continue operations in this environment. It is simply not worth the risk to the members of our Walt’s Wharf team, and it is financially unsustainable. Candidly, we don’t know what the future holds for Walt’s Wharf. However, what is more important right now is the safety of our staff and community.

It is worth sharing that, over the last several days, the interactions we’ve had with each of you have created lasting memories. The care and concern expressed for each other’s well-being has lifted our spirits. Receiving telephone calls from your out of town family members, asking if we can deliver you a special meal on your birthday, etc., has touched our hearts, and been an honor.

From the bottom of our heart, we want to thank each of you for your friendship and loyal support for all of these years. It has been a pleasure to be a part of your lives, and have the opportunity to serve you.

We love you and miss you, Seal Beach!!

Sincerely,

Mona and Brenda Babcock, and The Team at Walt’s Wharf
