PLS READ/DON’T SKIP: As mentioned in my newsletter, yesterday I launched my new online print shop (link below), and this week 💯% of all proceeds will be directly donated to Black Lives Matter, Minnesota Freedom Fund, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, National Police Accountability Fund, and Campaign Zero.

I’ve been vocal in my stories over the past few days (saved in DriftwoodFoto Instagram highlights), as now more than ever is a time to speak out, and yes to act. To be silent is to be complicit.

As many of you know, I’m immunosuppressed and there is still a pandemic going on. As much as I want to be out there in person, I just can’t. But this I can do.

I cannot claim to know the prejudice and fear many black and African Americans live with day to day. As an American Jew I have been prejudiced against, I have been intimidated, I have been told I’m wrong or too sensitive to others bigotry, I have been given death threats. Yet I know even that pales in comparison to what many Americans face day to day their entire lives. We need to unite. We need to stand strong together. We need to root out racism in all forms.

Written by Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller during WWII, this poem has always stood out to me as a reason, as a call to speak out at all costs:

First they came for the Communists, And I did not speak out, Because I was not a Communist;

Then they came for the Socialists, And I did not speak out, Because I was not a Socialist;

Then they came for the trade unionists, And I did not speak out, Because I was not a trade unionist;

Then they came for the Jews, And I did not speak out; Because I was not a Jew;

Then they came for me, And there was no one left, To speak out for me.
