From “Things I Notice When I’m Lost:”

I this scene during an American Culinary Federation event that I was invited to last week at Conner Prairie.

Have you EVER requested a project made in miniature (4” X 4”) that resulted in 1.) a finished product 3 X larger with 29 more personal references from your life’s experiences included; 2.) an exciting reveal that required some orchestration; and 3.) a new long-distance, extremely talented artist-friend who brought her young family 3 hours from home to meet you while delivering said project?

It was that 4” X 4” pansy that started this entire story. A simple request to recreate my logo in the same style resulted in a commission that super artist Stephanie Brown not only accepted but raised the bar 29 times after diving into this page!

Although it didn’t take much time at all for her to complete my personalized masterpiece, the sneak peek teasers she offered along the way charged my anticipation.

When we were finally able to meet in person, in addition to my treasure, Stephanie presented me with a key to her creation that included each of the 30 mini minis taken from this page and past EDventures, information on each, AND a “Bonus Key” that provided some additional (even personal) stories that were ironic about the project.

And I love it. I love that it is so bright and colorful and a bit of a mess - exactly like my life. I love that each time I look at it I am reminded of very happy times. I love that Stephanie threw herself into my request and seemed to have fun doing it. I love that I have new special friends up in South Bend.

There are over 12 years of memories on this page. Stephanie, are you ready for “Get Lost on Canvas .20”???

Have you EVER requested a project made in miniature that 1.) resulted in a finished product 3 X larger with 29 more personal references than anticipated; 2.) involved an exciting reveal; and 3.) created a new long-distance, extremely talented artist-friend who brought her young family 3 hours from home to meet you while delivering said project?

“Museum.”

When I hear the word (or read it), I think of a dusty, musky, old building that contains row after dark row of ancient items I have to read about. Also, I can’t touch these items because they are preserved behind glass.

HOWEVER, the newest exhibit to open at Conner Prairie will beg you not only to read and listen, but also INgage with others, test your own skills, and even taste some edibles along the way!

The video here, for example, challenges museum guests to try their hand(s) at whisking and actually rates your skills on technique and efficacy!

As you can see, I should probably stick to taking photos of food as opposed to making it…

But how fun!

The new exhibit is called “FOOD: Science, Culture, and Cuisine.”

The exhibit lives in a space that I remember was MUCH less exciting/inviting but has been transformed into an amazingly decorated and interactive “classroom.”

For no particular reason, I treated myself in a BIG way this week.

With a fun day event in downtown Indianapolis, I a VERY interesting AirB&B for the evening and chose a restaurant on my “wish list” for dinner.

No coupon. No trade. No lie (which I never do, but it sounds good here): Cunningham Restaurant Group continues to impress. I can’t wait to myself dining at Modita again.

No celebration necessary.

“Oh HORSE CHESTNUTS!”

I had no idea what I was looking at: nuts enclosed in the ugliest exterior of any nut I’ve ever seen. They were not friendly to hold, but the nut inside was as beautiful as a buckeye.

This particular tree was just one of the countless species (among the other 11,000 inventoried trees) I was INtroduced to in Crown Hill Cemetery.

It’s burgers like this that confirm I could not eat only fruits and vegetables for life.

Although, those onion rings were pretty darned good, too…

And did you even see the MILKSHAKE MENU???!!!

The good news is that I WILL be at Roots in the future! I had an opportunity to speak to one of the owners and we discussed featuring a “Burger of the Month.” Details are still to be worked out, but perhaps this will mean one or two EDventurers get to join me… Keep your eyes open!
