Hahahahaaaaa!!!! The lyrics were only “This” when I chose the song for this post. When the song played for the first was also the first time I heard, “I need this.” Yikes!! Because the first photo is of the Smoking Pastor. Ooops.🫢🤭

Good evening, EDventurers!

It’s rainy and I just spent the entire day and evening inside the Indiana State Fair’s Event Center. But no complaints from this Lady. Tasting/judging and then scavenging small plates of WORLD CLASS cuisine is the “sport” I’m playing this week. It’s a tough gig, especially when you realize samples of WORLD CLASS cocktails, liquor, and b**r are also part of the assignment (if accepted).

Today I judged the best of the best in the “Noodle” category. I don’t know that I can reveal my favorite since the results are not out yet, but just know that my favy fave had a tail on it…🤔

Also, and this was totally cool! I made friends with some vendors from Bremen, Indiana! Anyone from Bremen out there?? Please raise your hand!

Anyway, they were the kindest couple, they are selling a whole line of their Amish spreads and dips. After sharing about this platform, Lorene invited me to on their farmstead and told me shed dress me up like an Amish lady when I visit! I am sooooo up for this!

I seriously need to go to bed because tomorrow is the 2nd day of WFC and I judge the SEAFOOD category. So excited!

Good evening, EDventurers!

It’s rainy and I just spent the entire day and evening inside the Indiana State Fair’s Event Center. But no complaints from this Lady. Tasting/judging and then scavenging small plates of WORLD CLASS cuisine is the “sport” I’m playing this week. It’s a tough gig, especially when you realize samples of WORLD CLASS cocktails, liquor, and b**r are also part of the assignment (if accepted).

Indiana State Fairgrounds

A week ago today, my mind was on a 4-day EDventure in North Manchester, Indiana. My hosts at The Manchester on Bond coordinated the most INteresting, fun, and educational extravaganza and I’ve hardly stopped posting since I returned to Indianapolis.

Although my location has changed (a 1906 castle-inspired home turned partial AirB&B in downtown Indianapolis) and time is moving fast, I still have several Hoosier gems to share with you from that weekend! The location of this beautiful waterfall is just one!

But World Food Championships also begins today and I’ll be invested in it until Sunday.

My point? I apologize for bombarding your feed lately. There’s just so much going on in Indiana that deserves some attention - and I’m thrilled to be the one to share it.

This is the final video I took during my EGGSellent EDventure to Kipster Farm in North Manchester, Indiana.

And, honestly, I need to apologize. I got all excited and told you on that second video that “the eggs are coming” at the initial site of just a few on the conveyor belt. 🤪

I was so wrong. The eggs didn’t actually come until they did like in this third video. Can you even believe it??!

Again, this educational treasure trove and really cool experience is completely free, open to the public, enjoyed at your own pace, and fun for the entire family.

KIPSTER Farm

I’m not a chicken farmer, unless raising 1 bird (maybe it WAS a parakeet) qualifies. I had to feed him and make sure he always had fresh water.

And I’d like to think that I knew everything about my single periwinkle chicken nugget. He loved clover flower, “beaking” paper, and talking to his handsome reflection. Scooby was also trilingual. Besides his infrequent common bird chirps, he continually jabbered English and could even say some words in Spanish. His Spanish name, for example, was “Escoobito.”

We spent a lot of time together when I was a roommate in a house and he was my roommate. He was free to fly out of his cage whenever I was home. He knew how to me in other parts of the house.

I NEVER considered eating him.

Now, my mom’s relationship with birds was a little different. She lived in the county and had chickens. She collected eggs and even witnessed chickens being processed.

And even though her chickens had names, they were raised to be eaten and eventually were.

Hold on! I’m getting to the point right now! 🤪

So imagine a once parakeet owner and a past chicken cuddler (my mom) visit a farm that is home to approximately 100,000 layer chickens across 4 “barns”!

I hardly have the words to describe what I saw or the mental real estate to understand what exactly a carbon neutral egg is. But I DO have my photographs and Internet links for you to learn more if INterested.

What I CAN tell you is that:

1. I have NEVER seen anything (even on tv) like I witnessed at Kipster.

2. The indoor facility is equal to a museum all about chickens and chicken eggs, but the chickens are only viewable through large windows.

3. The experience is made for the entire family, is go-at-your-own-pace, and is TOTALLY FREE!!

I’m telling you - I often have to think about family-friendly/educational experiences that should be of interest to every age (beyond the obvious Hoosier museums). But now Kipster Farm has a place on my platform and I am happy to share their information.

Now, Get Lost at Kipster Farm as soon as you have a chance. I promise you will be fascinated, just like I was.

Coming to you this morning all kinds of out of order from 4 (2 1/2s) days and 3 nights in Wabash County.

This was actually the final treat before admitting my EDventure was over and heading back to Indianapolis.

And what a delicious treat it was after I took an already scrumptious salad, added savory chicken salad to it, and decided to make my own mini salad wraps out of the delicate leafs of bib lettuce.

If you’ve not been to the Charley Creek Inn in Wabash, Indiana, you have not been to my very favorite historic Hoosier hotel.
