While Pennsylvania does border New Jersey, this borough is not near it. Jersey Shore is found near the middle of the state, outside of Williamsport. The borough website states that the original borough name was "Waynesburg." Families from New Jersey began moving to the area in the early 1800s and the community began being referred to as the "Jersey Shore". The nickname stuck and the community was officially incorporated as Jersey Shore in 1826.
