RV Travels Traveling the slower back roads of North America allows meeting new people and experiencing the variety and beauty of this land. Safe Travels,

Dick and Melinda

The term shunpiking comes from the word shun, meaning “to avoid”, and pike, a term referring to turnpikes. The term is an old one from the early 1900s when turnpikes were common in the Northeast part of America. For us the term “Shun-Pike” means avoiding the Interstate highways and exploring the rural country. We are always looking for new back roads and new areas to discover. Traveling the slower

back roads of North America allows us to meet new people and and experience the little communities and scenic country of this continent. Dick Rauscher and Melinda Stanfield travel extensively in the US and Canada. They have lived full time in a motorhome, but now reside in Oregon and travel with their Lance trailer. Dick is a Life Coach, writer and founder of the Stonyhill Newsletter www.stonyhill-nuggets.com and Melinda is a web designer and marketer. Sign up to receive updates as we add them to this site. Made it to the Arctic Circle today. Would love to go on up to Prodhoe Bay, but that’s another 350 miles on a very bumpy dirt road. I don’t wanna injure my van anymore. It already has one ding from a rock. The temperature is 65° at 7 o’clock at night. That certainly is not what I imagined being in the Arctic Circle.
