Lava fountains erupted early this morning, shooting 600+ feet from the south vent and 200 feet from the north vent inside the crater!

🌋 Kīlauea’s Episode 13 Eruption Wraps Up!

Kīlauea’s latest eruption came to an end after 12 hours and 37 minutes of fountaining yesterday! 🌋🔥 According USGS Volcanoes, lava covered more than 60% of Halemaʻumaʻu crater floor.

Our Hawaii Forest & Trail guide Eugene was out in the field with our intern Emily, witnessing this incredible event firsthand. Even our founder, Robert, was in the park and snapped a selfie to mark the moment! 📸

🌿Celebrate World Wildlife Day with Us! 🌿

Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge, whose name means ‘many perches,’ is a sanctuary for Hawaii Island’s endemic birds. This refuge plays a vital role in protecting endangered species through habitat restoration, invasive species control, and education initiatives.

Hawaii’s birds, like the honeycreepers, represent a great example of avian evolution on Earth- but they are the most endangered. Protecting them means investing in the forests they call home.
