Howdy Ho Adventurers!
One of the joys of bringing a “newbie” to the islands is getting to show off the rich culture and history of the Hawaiian people. And no Hawaiian adventure is complete without a visit with the fish.
Jonathan got to admire the beauty on land, now it was time to show him the beauty under the sea. This was his first boat ride and first real time swimming in the ocean so we all kept a watchful eye on him, but shoutout to our amazing crew for making us all feel so comfortable !
We took a catamaran to Captain Cook at Kealakekua Bay, one of the calmest spots in Hawaii. After learning about its history, we hopped in.
I made a promise to my family that I would give snorkeling a real shot this time. We’ve gone on many snorkel adventures and I have always been the photographer aboard the boat. I was determined to give it my best.
Fish have always been a fear of mine (no idea why) so even just putting my feet in the water would make me cry in fear. I jumped in and did some deep breathing. After about 15 minutes, I was able to put my face in the water and look around.
Turns out, it’s amazing! Kind of like the real world experience of the Finding Nemo ride at Disneyland ;)
I stayed in the water the entire hour along with my family (I may have forgotten the SD card for the Go Pro… so no photos).
Another item checked off of my list as I revisit things that caused me such anxiety in the past. Jonathan is officially “one with the water” and loved the entire adventure.
The crew was seriously so amazing and even showed me a card with all of the local fish once we got back on board that we had seen today so that I would “have a positive memories of the fish”. As I left the dock, a crew member shouted, “I’m so glad you got in!”
So am I.
A bonus: no one got sea sick!!
