Pirate's Life Vacations

Pirate's Life Vacations I believe that the more sustainable a travel experience is, the more unique and authentic it will be. Some people may refer to me as a Walt Disney World nerd.

That may be true, but those same people may also be found pushing through hordes of people and waiting and waiting in those notorious, looooong and not-so-magical lines. Psssttt… I know a way around all that. I won't bore you with the the mathematics behind this successful Disney touring, but if you book with me, I'll keep you clued in. Considering other Disney experiences? Want a Disney Cruise t

o discover Alaska, the Caribbean or Europe? How about frolicking among the naughty Menehune at Disney's Aulani on the Ko Olina coast of Oahu? Want to take in cultures and adventures of far off lands with Adventures by Disney? ...or soak in the nostalgia of the original Disneyland in California? I can do it all! Italy has been the most popular destination for my clients this summer (with Greece coming in at a close second). It has been a pleasure planning these. Thank you.

I am excited to announce that I have been invited, along with a few other Travel Agents, on a destination familiarization trip to learn more about Italy's neighbor, Slovenia.

I can't wait to bring this experience back to you all...

Overtourism has plagued some of the Europe’s most iconic sites and cities for a while now. It can also be less than magical for the tourist.
- I try to encourage people to travel during off-peak times of year.
- Don’t visit Europe via large mass market cruise ship or large, coach tour. You aren’t getting the opportunity to experience the culture.
- Don’t overprogram your days. Some of the most magical moments and memories happen when you get lost and stumble upon special spaces. A small bookstore or cafe…. A little sandwhich stand… or a bench.

Though I took steps to avoid tourists when I visited the Colosseum, I found it was too crowded to enjoy Rome's iconic attraction.

All-inclusive resorts were originally created to insulate and isolate western tourists from communities in the Caribbean, deeming them as “unsafe.” The inclusions were incentive to keep people on resort property. It was actually bad for those communities because most all-inclusive resorts were often foreign-owned and operated (still true today). The tourist dollars didn’t go into the community at all, and the resorts and tourists often overused the area’s natural resources and overextending the services - water, trash, etc.. . Yes, some jobs were created, but they were often menial labor jobs with exploitative pay and no opportunity for growth. The solid employment opportunities were often given to expats. Food was often shipped from abroad to appeal to western palates.

Due to awareness of the harmful nature of these resorts, some resorts have made some strides to lessen the negative impacts of this to some communities. That’s partially good news, but we can do better.

Be a conscious consumer of travel. :)

This is the type of woman I aspire to be.
Not flashy or fancy or put any priority in material possessions. Doesn’t have anything to prove… just a badass who is not afraid to attempt hard things

At 67 years old, Emma “Grandma” Gatewood laced up her worn-out sneakers, looked at her family, and simply said,
“I’m going for a walk.”

No one suspected that “walk” would lead her deep into the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. In 1955, armed with nothing but a cotton dress, a homemade denim bag, and a pair of old Keds, Emma set off—alone—to hike the entire 3,470-kilometer Appalachian Trail. No tent. No map. No fancy gear.

🔥 She became the first woman to ever complete the trail solo in one season. While others her age were settling into retirement, Emma was stepping into history.

But she wasn’t done. She returned to the trail two more times—once at the age of 75—defying every expectation and proving that strength doesn’t come from youth, but from willpower.

When asked why she did it, her answer was as bold and free as her spirit:
“Because I wanted to. Because I could.”

Emma’s journey didn’t just blaze a trail through the wilderness—it carved a path through doubt, ageism, and fear. Her story still echoes through the hills, reminding us that it’s never too late to begin something extraordinary.

✨ What’s your first step toward something bold? Let her story inspire yours.
