Maui’s food truck scene is full of hidden gems, and in this episode, Shane Perry and Aunty Pineapple reveal some of their personal favorites (best for them right now). From well-loved local trucks to a rising vendor that might just be the next big food truck on the island, they share where to find some seriously good eats. Right now, that up-and-coming favorite can be found at the Kahului Saturday Morning Swap Meet and the 808 Sunday Market—but Aunty Pineapple predicts bigger things ahead.

It is now February 2026 and the weather on Maui right now is unusual. Itʻs a story kind of weather. This is what "winter" on Maui is like - sometimes there are rain.

The truth is I needed help … and I need help right now. I have the idea, and it’s a great idea, but I do not have the time to implement my ideas.

I tried … and I was able to send out 2 issues in a row.

Then Holiday season came, and my daughter came home from the mainland, and I wanted to spend time with her because she is only here for 10 days, - I tried writing the newsletter late at night and in the wee hours of the morning, but I literally was falling asleep in front of my computer.

All these to say, I am going to put a pause on this Local Newsletter project until I find a sponsor who will help finance an assistant for me (or hire a writer).

Another option I have is to finish working my Maui Vacation Guide book (Maui Now and Beyond) and use the profit of that to hire an assistant so I can make the Inside Maui Local Newsletter happen.

I do not have the option to resign from my full time job to focus on my passion projects. As a responsible employee, my priority has always been do the work for my employer first, then my personal passion project in my spare time.

And then there is also that part of me that wants to develop relationships in person and not just online. If you’ve read this far … thank you.

As we move to the news year 2026, please know that I am still here passionate about sharing Maui with you … for now I’m focusing back on finishing my book, then I will officially launch this Inside Maui local newsletter. Mahalo for being in this journey with me.
