Some of our favorite memories from Alaska weren’t moments we could have planned from home.
During a whale-watching excursion, we stopped near several humpback whales feeding nearby. Then we started noticing everything else around us.
The whales surfaced near the boat. Seals were stretched out on a channel buoy. Bald eagles circled overhead.
For a few quiet minutes, nobody seemed interested in talking. Nobody was in a hurry. Everyone was simply taking it in.
That’s one of the things Alaska taught us: the destination isn’t only about checking excursions off a list.
Some of the moments you remember most happen when the scenery makes you stop, step outside, and pay attention.
