🛡️ After nearly 40 years of helping California and East Tennessee families and businesses with technology, I've noticed something troubling...

Most parents have no idea what their children can access online today.

Not because they're bad parents.

Not because they don't care.

Because technology has become incredibly complicated.

Over the past few months, I've been working on a new service through Personal Systems focused specifically on helping families create a safer digital environment.

We're still putting the finishing touches on it, but it will include things like:

✅ Child device protection

✅ Internet safety and content filtering

✅ Gaming and social media safety

✅ Parent education

✅ Family data and photo protection

Before we officially launch, I'd love some feedback.

What is your biggest concern when it comes to your kids, grandkids, or technology in general?

📱 Too much screen time?

🎮 Gaming and online chat?

🌐 Inappropriate content?

📸 Losing family photos and memories?

💬 Online predators and social media?

Comment below or send me a private message.

Your feedback will help shape the final service.

💻 A client recently called and said:

“We just hired a new employee in another city and need to get them set up.”

A new laptop had already been shipped directly to the employee.

Instead of needing someone onsite, we handled the setup remotely.

Once the employee powered on the computer, I remotely connected and:
✅ configured the system
✅ connected it securely to the company network
✅ set up VPN remote access
✅ installed remote support tools
✅ configured permissions and employee access
✅ prepared the system for daily operations

Within a short time, the employee was fully operational and securely connected to the company systems from another city.

The entire process took less than 30 minutes.

Here’s the lesson:

Modern businesses are no longer limited by geography.

But remote employees require:
• secure access
• proper permissions
• reliable systems
• good onboarding processes
• cybersecurity awareness

When technology is planned correctly, hiring and supporting remote employees can be smooth, secure, and efficient.

Technology should help businesses move faster… not create more stress.

📧 What should have been a simple email setup… turned into a much bigger business technology problem.

A business owner recently contacted me because his marketing emails were being flagged and rejected instead of properly delivering to customers.

The issue?

His business email system wasn’t correctly configured with modern email security protections.

As a temporary workaround, his newsletters were being sent from a generic email address instead of his actual business domain.

At first this looked like a quick fix.

But after digging deeper, we discovered something very common in long-running businesses:

The original email system had been set up over 10 years ago…
by someone who was no longer around…
and nobody had the proper access or documentation needed to manage it.

That led to:
• working with hosting providers
• proving domain ownership
• recovering account access
• creating backup plans
• setting up a temporary replacement system to keep business moving

Thankfully, we were able to get a new email system operational so the client could continue communicating with customers while we work through restoring access to the original setup.

Here’s the lesson:

Many businesses inherit technology systems that “just work” for years…

until one day they suddenly don’t.

And when that happens, missing documentation, outdated access, and old vendor relationships can quickly become business problems.

Technology management isn’t just about fixing computers.

It’s about making sure your business can continue operating when things go wrong.

📧 “Your mailbox is full.”

A client recently called because they suddenly stopped receiving email.

The reason?

Their mailbox storage had completely filled up.

At first it seemed like a simple issue…

But like many technology problems, it turned into something bigger:

* years of accumulated email
* oversized attachments
* no archiving system
* important business records mixed with junk
* no long-term storage plan

We worked through:
✅ cleaning up space
✅ downloading older email
✅ archiving important records
✅ organizing folders
✅ restoring normal operation

Here’s the lesson:

Most businesses don’t think about email storage until everything suddenly stops working.

But email has quietly become:

* communication history
* customer records
* invoices
* legal documentation
* operational memory

Without organization and maintenance, it eventually creates stress, confusion, and downtime.

One thing I see often in small businesses:

Technology slowly becoming a source of stress.

Slow systems.
Weak Wi-Fi.
Confusing passwords.
Backup uncertainty.
Employees frustrated with computers.

Most business owners adapt to the frustration little by little until it becomes “normal.”

But technology should support your business —
not constantly interrupt it.

Sometimes small improvements create huge reductions in daily stress and downtime.

I once worked with a dental office that believed their systems were backing up properly every day.

Everything LOOKED fine.

Until disaster hit.

When we tested the backups…

they had failed.

The office had to recreate nearly THREE MONTHS of information manually from paper records.

I later saw something similar with a company hit by ransomware.

They also believed they had backups.

They didn’t.

Here’s the hard truth:

Most businesses THINK they have backups…

until they actually need them.

A backup is only a backup if:

✅ it works
✅ it’s tested
✅ it can actually be restored

Technology problems grow very quickly once data is lost.

A gentleman called me in a panic after a popup suddenly appeared on his computer:

⚠️ “Your computer has a virus! Call Microsoft immediately!”

So he did.

A professional-sounding “tech support” person answered and asked for remote access to his computer.

The next day…
the SAME popup appeared again.

When he mentioned contacting his regular IT person, the pressure started:
“If you do that, we can’t guarantee your computer won’t crash.”

That’s when he shut the machine down and called me.

Here’s the lesson:

Most cyber scams don’t begin with sophisticated hacking.

They begin with PANIC.

Fear.
Urgency.
Pressure.

If a popup suddenly tells you to call someone immediately:
STOP before clicking or calling.

Scammers today target people more than computers.
