Last month I hosted a national conference at Disney for over 1300 teens and their advisors. Hotel contracts. Room blocks. Flights. Meal counts. Motorcoach transportation. A daily schedule that moved a few thousand people through sessions, meals, and evening events without anyone getting lost.

That is group travel planning. I have been doing it for over 25 years.

Booking a senior class trip is not the same as booking a family vacation. You need someone who reads the attrition clause before you sign. Someone who knows the cutoff dates, the deposit schedule, and how to build an itinerary that holds up when 40 teenagers hit a buffet line at the same time.

I handle the hotel contract, the flights, the airport transfers, the payment deadlines, and the parent questions. You handle the permission slips.

I set a goal at the beginning of this year to earn my FORA Pro status by the end of July.

Here’s something most travelers don’t find out until they’re already freezing on a city street:

In some cities, wind matters more than the temperature.

I learned this over years of traveling — you can dress for cold and still be miserable if you don’t dress for wind.

Cities with tall buildings and open streets create natural wind tunnels that cut straight through clothing. That’s why a 45° day in certain cities can feel far colder than a 30° day somewhere else.

This is especially true in cities like:

New York City
Chicago
San Francisco
Boston
Toronto

These cities all have strong coastal or urban wind patterns that change how cold you actually feel when you’re walking all day.

This is something I always help my clients think about ahead of time, because the right packing choices completely change the experience.

Here’s what seasoned travelers know:

• Blocking wind is often more important than just staying warm
• A wind-resistant coat can matter more than a heavy coat
• Layering traps heat better than one bulky jacket
• Cold pavement pulls heat out through your shoes faster than expected

And here’s an insider trick most people don’t think about until they’ve suffered through it once:

• Reusable pocket hand warmers or rechargeable hand warmers — keep them in your coat pockets all day
• Disposable hand warmers for long sightseeing days

My boyfriend and I are boarding a plane to Honolulu, and it still doesn’t feel real 🌺✈️

This trip started as a casual “we need a warm getaway” conversation and turned into five nights in Hawaii, island drives in a Jeep, and sunsets we didn’t have to stress about planning or paying for.
