Okay, this is a good one. Halloween Time at Disneyland, with the pumpkins on Main Street and the Haunted Mansion dressed up in its Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, for under $1,575 total for two adults.

You do NOT need to wake teenagers at 6 AM every day to have a good Disney vacation.

There. I said it.

Can early mornings help at Disney? Absolutely.

Do I want to spend seven consecutive vacation mornings dragging exhausted teenagers out of bed because somebody online told me that's the only correct way to Disney?

No.

One thing that's changed as my own kids have gotten older: I pay a LOT more attention to what is actually on the ship.

When kids are little, a themed kids club and seeing a favorite character can be the entire event.

Then suddenly they're teenagers, and you're hearing, "What else is there to do?"

That doesn't mean teens don't love Disney Cruise Line. Some absolutely do.

It means I wouldn't book a cruise for my family today using the same checklist I would have used when everybody was seven.

The family changed.

The vacation should be allowed to change too.

One underrated benefit of Disney with older kids:

Everyone can carry their own stuff.

I spent years being the person responsible for snacks, sunscreen, extra clothes, water bottles, random souvenirs, and whatever somebody suddenly decided they absolutely could not carry anymore.

Now?

You have pockets.

Use them.

There are a lot of things I loved about Disney when my boys were little.

Being the family pack mule was not one of them.
