The moment you arrive at Devossion by Live Aqua Playa del Carmen, you immediately understand the vibe of the resort 🌴
You hear the sound of cascading water from the pyramid-style waterfall, the open-air design draws in the Caribbean breeze, and your eyes are pulled straight through the heart of the resort toward the sea. It creates this really beautiful indoor-outdoor atmosphere that feels connected to Playa del Carmen instead of closed off from it.
One thing I personally loved was the balance between open-air spaces and air-conditioned comfort. Many of the restaurants and bars flow naturally outdoors, while still offering enough A/C throughout the property to cool down and stay comfortable in the Riviera Maya heat.
I recently spent 3 nights at the resort meeting with management, experiencing the restaurants, activities, pools, entertainment, and overall guest experience to better understand who this property is truly the best fit for.
And honestly… this resort fills a really unique niche in Playa del Carmen.
Devossion sits just one block off famous 5th Avenue, which means guests are steps away from the restaurants, cafés, nightlife, shopping, local entertainment, and culture that make Playa del Carmen so popular. What makes this resort special is that it truly offers the best of both worlds. Guests can absolutely stay on property and enjoy the ease of an all-inclusive adults-only experience with multiple dining venues, pools, activities, bars, spa amenities, and entertainment, or they can easily step outside the resort and immerse themselves to the heart of Playa Del Carmen!
I can easily see this resort working well for bachelorette groups, friends getaways, adult family trips, honeymooners wanting more walkability and nightlife nearby, corporate incentive groups, and even dive enthusiasts wanting easy access to the Cozumel ferry for a day or two of incredible diving and snorkeling.
The resort itself was formerly the family-friendly Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort, so the property already had beautiful architecture and strong bones before transitioning into an adults-only concept. It is not a brand-new build, and if you look closely, you can see a little wear in some areas. But the resort is very clean, very well maintained, and honestly, the staff, food, service, and overall atmosphere quickly become the focus.
And speaking of food… this resort absolutely excels in that category. A truly top-notch pastry chef is hard to find at all-inclusive resorts, but Devossion genuinely impressed me. Breakfast at Azur became one of my favorite parts of the day, especially paired with "The Cup" which serves Starbucks brewed beverages and handcrafted iced espresso drinks from a talented barista who could seemingly make anything. Such a bonus for coffee lovers (that's me...I'm the coffee lover!). And the yogurt parfait at Azur was literally one of the best parfaits I’ve ever had anywhere. Fresh fruit, layers of flavor, homemade granola… it was that good. And don’t even get me started on the chocolate croissants, so flaky and delightful.
Lunch at Ceviche was another standout, especially ending with the chilled cheesecake on a stick dipped in chocalate that somehow managed to feel both refreshing and indulgent in the Playa heat. Mercatto, the Italian restaurant, delivered one of the best tiramisus I’ve had at a resort pairedd with the pear and blue cheese salad, the lasagna, the calamari, the list goes on! And if you are a sushi lover, YUMI definitely has you covered. The sushi was consistently fresh, beautifully presented, and genuinely impressive for an all-inclusive property. Presentation and flavor throughout the resort were consistently elevated.
The infinity pools also deserve their own mention because this is exactly my type of setup. Every major pool area faces the ocean, so even if the beach conditions fluctuate, you still have those beautiful Caribbean views right in front of you all day long. I’m personally very content relaxing by an infinity pool on my float staring at the ocean without necessarily needing sand on my feet or to swim with sea life, so for me, that made the sargassum much less of an issue overall. Elevating the experience even more are the beautiful TP-style cabanas positioned throughout the pool areas, creating the perfect setup for a full day of lounging oceanside with food, drinks, shade, and incredible views. There is no swim up bar, but that is quickly offset by the spectacular pool service!
And in full transparency, we had some absolutely beautiful blue water days during my stay and other days where the water was not that bright turquoise because of sargassum. Such is life at many oceanfront resorts these days depending on weather and currents, especially throughout parts of the Caribbean and Riviera Maya.
One area where the resort really surprised me was the activities program. There truly felt like there was something for everyone throughout the day. From wine tastings and daily art projects to stretch classes, pool aerobics, and pool volleyball, the activities added energy and engagement without making the atmosphere feel overly loud or forced. The daily 1:26 toast around the pool was also such a fun signature touch and became an easy social moment each afternoon.
One thing I appreciated is that the resort has entertainment and gathering spaces without trying too hard to force a “party” vibe. The sports bar, which was converted from a former teen center, has a bit of a different layout than a traditional sports bar, but it actually works. It felt casual and fun with games, putt putt, and one night I stumbled into a really great live rock band there.
And the hidden speakeasy… absolutely one of my favorite little details on property. Quaint, intimate, and honestly part of the fun is trying to find it. The DJ loves to spin some great tunes and plenty of room to dance if you wish.
The spa is also stunning. Easily one of the most visually beautiful spa spaces I’ve toured in Mexico.
Overall, I left genuinely impressed. For the right traveler wanting walkability, destination immersion, elevated food, strong service, beautiful oceanfront pool views, and an all-inclusive adults-only atmosphere in the heart of Playa del Carmen, I think Devossion by Live Aqua brings a lot to the table ✨.
