Next up, Quetico 2025!! Most of you have heard of the MN Boundary Water Canoe Area or BWCA. The Quetico is roughly the same size, just on the Canadian side of the border.

Why go to Canada for the same thing? The BWCA receives approx 150k visitors each year. The Q… under 60k. Imagine nearly 100k less people trampling through the woods or 100k less lines in the water pressuring fish. What would that look like? You can imagine, and that’s why we go!

This trip is not a big group trip like Ice Stock. 3-6 people usually attend. Have questions or would like to join us on a future trip? Reach out! We set sail in June!

Ice Stock 2025… I think everyone started day 1 taking lots of pictures, mingling in different houses, and catching fish fairly consistently. As the weekend wore on, we all began to slow down. Some blame the frequent DNR visits, some the weather, some blame the fishing, others the late night movies, games, and of course a few cocktails.

What we all know having long since recovered from the weekend on LOTW is that we had a ton of fun! I recall moments where we couldn’t get the line to the bottom, amazing meals with friends, and laughing until my stomach hurt.

These people, many of which have been going strong for more than 15yrs, are a blessing to be around. They’re always positive and some even overly optimistic. We leave this trip smiling and grateful to have attended. I truly hope everyone has something like this in their lives. If not, come check us out, The Herd of Turtles!

Ice Stock ‘22 is right around the corner! I'm making reservations now for the weekend of 2/3-2/6 and we don't want to end up in the same position as last year where we were scrambling to find an extra house for last minute add-ons. Arnesen’s came in clutch, but I don't want to deal with that stress again if we can help it. This event has only grown over the years and this year, we’re expecting around 30 people! If you want a spot, reach out to Jake-1 as soon as possible! 651-233-3153

I've never been salmon fishing, but an opportunity to get out recently with my Dad and my youngest brother, Dylan, seemed like something I couldn't pass up. We went out of Dumper Dan’s in Sheboygan, WI for a 3 day trip from 9/12-9/14.

The weather did not cooperate as has unfortunately been the case for them all throughout the fishing season. It was windy and on a big lake like Lake Michigan, that has the potential to create life-threatening conditions for boats seeking these amazing fish.

Of the 3 days we were there, we only made it out once, on Monday morning. Dylan caught a nice Jack and I was able to reel in this big Coho. This time of year can be hit or miss, depending on when the salmon make their run. We were early.

This trip felt like every other deep sea fishing excursion I've ever been on, minus the tropical weather of course. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's passionate about fishing. Dan was accommodating and even sent us home with more fish than we caught as a consolation for not being able to get out and catch more of them ourselves.

I'm happy to arrange more trips like this for anyone who's interested!

In catching up on some Turtle activity, I’d like to share some photos and our experiences from our recent trip to the Superior Hiking Trail. It went from Sunday, June 13th to Tuesday, June 15th. We hiked approximately 30 miles in 2 1/2 days! We had a bear in camp on the first night. He was as surprised to see us as we were to see him, so hurried away with no issues, never to be seen again. We also saw many signs of bear throughout the trip including s**t and tracks. We met a fellow hiker on the trail, Jerry Jensen, a teacher in culinary arts at a HS in the northern burbs. He had a tremendous survival story, having experienced a heart attack that nearly took his life. Every day is a gift not to be wasted and few know that better than Mr. Jensen! We also walked up on a family of grouse. One of the babies is shown hiding in a tree in one of the photos. Steve-1 made an early exit prior to the final 12 mile leg back to the vehicles with some pain in his foot. All in all, it was another successful trip by the Turtles. In attendance was Jake-1, Bob-1, Steve-1, and Beasts Belle & Kate.

Man, it’s been a quiet year for the Turtles. With Covid concerns, & border closings, & a number of other things, we’ve been unable to resume Herd activity. Hopefully this will be the start to many more trips & events going forward. We have a Superior Hiking Trail trip planned for June 13-15(Yes, I know this presents challenges for some, being that it extends into the work week. Our apologies!) We’re currently at 3 men & 2 beasts with little to no advertising amongst our social networks. If you’d like more information & would like to join, please reach out. My best to you, Jake-1
