Traveling with teens is not harder. It just needs a different kind of plan.

After years of traveling with my own boys, I’ve learned that the trip changes as kids get older. You’re not packing sippy cups and strollers anymore, but now you’re balancing sleep schedules, food opinions, space, Wi-Fi, activities they’ll actually care about, and enough downtime so nobody turns into a vacation gremlin.

And honestly? Teen travel can be wonderful when you plan for who they are now — not who they were five years ago.

For families with teens, I love thinking through things like:
• rooms with enough space
• activities that don’t feel babyish
• food options that keep everyone happy
• cruise ships with strong teen areas
• Disney plans that balance thrill rides and downtime
• resorts with independence but still family connection

Because the goal is not to force a perfect family vacation.

The goal is to create one where everyone actually enjoys being together.

This little airport trick could save your family a whole lot of standing-around time this summer.

Some airports offer free security screening reservation programs where you can reserve a time slot before you arrive. Orlando International Airport, for example, offers MCO Reserve for passengers without TSA PreCheck or CLEAR+ so families can plan ahead and use a dedicated reservation lane.

Not every airport has this, and it does not replace TSA PreCheck everywhere, but it is absolutely worth checking before a busy summer flight.

This is the kind of detail that sounds small until you’re standing in an airport security line with kids, snacks, backpacks, and one person asking if you’re “almost there yet” every four minutes.

I love finding these little planning details because they can make travel feel smoother before you even get to the fun part.

Busy moms don’t need more chaos on travel day. They need a plan.

Building a travel business between school schedules, family life, and iced coffee refills feels very on brand for this season.

This is the behind-the-scenes part people don’t always see — the trainings, the supplier research, the destination notes, the late-night idea lists, the “okay, let’s figure this out” moments.

I didn’t become the family trip planner overnight.

It started with our Disney honeymoon, then years of planning family vacations around school schedules, work calendars, budgets, toddler naps, teenage opinions, and all the little details that can make or break a trip.

For more than 15 years, I’ve been the one researching resorts after bedtime, comparing cruise itineraries during lunch breaks, and trying to make sure every vacation felt worth the time, energy, and money it took to get there.

Now I’m turning that experience into Porch & Palm Travel.

I’m a wife, mom of three boys, Certified Travel Professional, iced coffee loyalist, golden retriever mom, Disney lover, cruise fan, beach girl at heart, and someone who truly understands what it feels like to be the one who plans everything.

My husband and I went to Disney World on our honeymoon. I know what you're thinking — and yes, we heard it from people. 😄 But here's what nobody warned me about: I walked through those gates as a grown adult, on my first trip ever, and something in me just… lit up. I felt like a kid. A completely uninhibited, full-of-wonder kid — right there next to my brand new husband who was feeling the exact same thing. Twenty years later, I still think about moments from that trip. The details. The way it felt. It sparked something in me that I didn't expect — a real desire to keep experiencing new things, to keep going places, to keep doing it with people I love.
