We want to make families traveling to Mexico aware of some upcoming changes.
Mexico has recently approved new legislation aimed at preventing child trafficking & exploitation. Once implemented, hotels and other tourism providers will be required to verify the relationship or legal authority between children and the adults traveling with them. While an official implementation date has not yet been announced, we want our guests to be prepared!
If you're traveling to Mexico with children under the age of 18, we recommend bringing the following documentation:
📄 All families: A copy of each child's birth certificate or adoption paperwork showing your relationship to the child.
👨👩👧 Divorced or separated parents: If applicable, copies of any custody agreements or court orders relevant to traveling with your child.
✈️ Children traveling with only one parent: Whenever possible, a notarized letter from the parent who is not traveling, authorizing the child to travel internationally with the accompanying parent.
👵 Children traveling with grandparents or other adults: A notarized authorization letter from the child's parent or legal guardian, along with documentation establishing the relationship or authority to travel.
We can help you with all of this. These are precautionary recommendations while we await further details about how the new requirements will be implemented and which documents hotels will accept. We're also waiting to learn whether original or certified copies will be required.
