It is with great sadness that I announce that this summer, for the first time since 2007, Tropic Troupe will not produce a show.
Stirling and I reached this decision only in the face of daunting logistical and personal obstacles. Changes in our own lives, combined with changes in the availability of the facilities on which we rely, have led us to reach the conclusion that it is in the best interests of all to take an indefinite hiatus.
Tropic Troupe has been has been a consuming force in my life for the last seven years. I feel immeasurable gratitude to all those who have been a part of it.
Through our shows, I have enjoyed the friendship of incredible families who share an absolute dedication for providing the best opportunities for our children to experience the profound beauty and power of the performing arts.
I have been humbled by the willingness of our local business communities to support our efforts, in the face of a national financial crisis, year after year.
I have been encouraged by the perennial attendance of hundreds of strangers to our shows, a phenomenon unique in local children's theater.
I have been astounded by the level of performances we have able to achieve
Most of all, I have had the tremendous privilege of watching dozens of amazing children grow up into amazing young adults. Every one holds a special place in my heart.
There are many people I would like to thank, far too many to list. So I'll limit it to two.
To Sarah, the love of my life, the mother of my astounding children: I could not have done the first thing, nor any other, without your constant and unwavering support.
To Stirling: I have watched you grow from the most exceptional teenager I have ever met, to an adult of vision and tremendous ability. You were there at the beginning, and stayed the course. Tropic Troupe would certainly not have been the same without you.
In the early years of Tropic Troupe, our season would begin with an email, "Who wants to do a show?"
I encourage those who still do to look at other local children's theaters. I will be be communicating with them in the weeks to come, and communicating with you.
I will miss you all this summer.
Break a leg,
MrB
