Seven weeks ago, this birthday trip didn’t exist.

No flights booked.
No hotels reserved.
No itinerary mapped out.

Just an idea — and a birthday worth celebrating.

Now, my clients are heading off on an incredible two-week adventure through London and France.

They’ll experience London, explore Paris, spend the night inside the walls of Mont-Saint-Michel, and finish their journey with a stay in a beautiful French château.

Seven weeks. Two countries. One pretty incredible birthday adventure.

Could I have planned this trip with more time? Absolutely.

But sometimes life doesn’t give you a year to plan the trip you’ve been dreaming about.

Sometimes you decide you’re ready to go — and you just need someone who knows how to pull all the pieces together.

Flights. Hotels. Transportation. Experiences. Timing. Logistics. All the little details that turn a collection of reservations into an actual journey.

And yes…

We planned this entire adventure in SEVEN WEEKS.

So if you’ve been thinking, “It’s probably too late to plan something amazing…”

It might not be.

One of my favorite cruise memories wasn't something that happened ON the ship.

It was where the ship could take me.
I took this photo as I stepped off a Windstar Cruises cruise in Porto Venere, Italy.

And when I say we sailed into Porto Venere, I mean it. There was no massive cruise terminal and no long transfer just to reach the place we'd come to see.

We stepped off, and there it was.
THIS was our view.

That's one of the things I love about small-ship cruising.

offers a completely different style of cruise experience. Their small yachts carry only a few hundred guests, and because of their size, they can visit smaller ports and harbors that many of the big cruise ships simply can't access.

And Windstar isn't the only option.
There's an entire world of small-ship, yacht and expedition cruising that many travelers don't even realize exists.

Some focus on food and wine. Others on culture and smaller European ports. And some can take you to places like Antarctica, the Arctic and remote islands that would otherwise be incredibly difficult to experience.

But here's the thing...

I ALSO love big ships.
I don't think there is one "right" kind of cruise.

Small ships offer something different.

They're often about where you're going and how you experience it once you get there.

The question isn't really:
"What's the best cruise line?"

It's:

"What's the best cruise for YOU?"

And that's a question I love helping people answer.

🇬🇷 GREEK ISLAND HOT TAKES 🇬🇷

Not every Greek island is interchangeable—and I definitely have favorites.

🔥 NAXOS — My “why isn’t everyone going here?” island

Beautiful beaches, a laid-back Greek island feel, great food, and enough going on that you can actually settle in and enjoy yourself. Plus, I love Naxos as a base for exploring nearby islands like Paros.

If you want Greece without feeling like you picked Greece solely because you saw it on Instagram… Naxos.

🔥 RHODES — The one that feels completely different

Rhodes is one of my favorites because it doesn't feel like a copy-and-paste version of the Cyclades. Medieval Old Town, castles, history, beaches and beautiful villages—it has its own personality.

If you want more than white buildings and blue domes, don't overlook Rhodes.

🔥 SANTORINI — Yes, it's touristy. Yes, I'd still go.

Some places are famous for a reason.

Those caldera views really ARE spectacular, and Santorini is one of those destinations I think is worth experiencing at least once.

My hot take? You don't necessarily need to spend your entire Greek vacation there. Pair it with an island that gives you a completely different experience.

🔥 CRETE — The island that could be the whole vacation

Crete is HUGE compared with many of the islands people automatically think of when they picture Greece.

Beaches. Mountains. Ancient history. Gorgeous towns. Villages. Incredible food.

If you want to unpack your suitcase and still have plenty to explore, Crete deserves a serious look.

🔥 MY BIGGEST GREECE HOT TAKE?

Don't choose your islands just because they're the ones you've heard of.

Choose them based on how you actually want to spend your vacation.

Beach every day? History? Nightlife? Quiet villages? Incredible food? Island hopping? Luxury and views?

The right Greek island combination can make the difference between a good vacation and an incredible one—and that's one of my favorite parts of planning Greece.

So tell me…

🇬🇷 Naxos, Rhodes, Santorini or Crete—which one are you choosing?

And if Greece is calling your name, I'd love to help you figure out which islands actually fit YOU.

Have you ever booked the cheapest hotel—only to .realize it cost you more in time, transportation or frustration?

When choosing a hotel, there are three things I consider especially important:

Location

Time is one of your most precious resources when traveling. A lower-priced hotel may not be a bargain if you spend hours commuting to the places you came to experience—or pay more for taxis and transportation.

Accommodation Clarity

A room that “sleeps four” does not always mean there are four traditional beds. It may include a sofa bed, rollaway or shared sleeping space. Understanding the exact beds and room layout helps ensure everyone is comfortable—and no one unexpectedly ends up on the floor.

Reputation

Cleanliness and service can set the tone for your entire adventure. Arriving at a poorly maintained hotel or encountering unhelpful staff can quickly overshadow an otherwise wonderful destination.

As a travel advisor, I consider all of these details before recommending a hotel. Price matters, but it should never be the only consideration. A great hotel does not have to be the most luxurious—it needs to be well located, appropriate for your party and dependable.

A few properties I have had wonderful experiences with include:

— Hotel Imperial Vienna
— Château de Bourron, France
— Artezen Hotel, New York City
— Cassidys Hotel Dublin

These hotels offer very different experiences and price points, but each demonstrates how the right location, accommodations and service can elevate a trip.

Planning a trip and unsure where to stay? Let me help you find the right hotel—not simply the cheapest one.

Travel days don’t have to be wasted days.

One of my favorite things to build into an itinerary is a private touring transfer — and a lot of travelers don’t even realize this is an option.

Let’s say you need to get from Edinburgh to the Highlands. You could simply hire a driver to take you there…

OR you could make a day of it.

Your driver picks you up at your hotel, your luggage comes with you, and along the way you might stop at a castle, explore a small village, have lunch somewhere local, visit a distillery or pull over at one of those incredible viewpoints you would otherwise drive right past.

At the end of the day, you’re dropped off at your next hotel.

You needed the transportation anyway — why not see something along the way?

I use touring transfers in destinations all over the world when they make sense. Sometimes they’re the perfect solution for reaching places that are difficult without a car, and sometimes they simply make an itinerary flow SO much better.

It’s one of those little planning details that can completely change a trip.

Planning a trip with complicated transportation? Send me an email. I’d love to help you figure out the best way to put it together.

One thing a lot of travelers don’t realize about Belize…

Landing in Belize is often just the beginning of the journey.

Many of Belize’s most beautiful resort areas aren’t right outside the international airport. Depending on where you stay, getting to your resort may mean:

✈️ A short commuter flight
🚤 A water taxi or boat transfer
🚐 A longer drive across the country
—or a combination of the three.

Want to stay on Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker? You’ll typically continue by small plane or water taxi.

Dreaming about the beaches of Placencia? You can fly there on a short domestic flight or make the several-hour drive south.

Heading somewhere more remote? Your transfer can become part of the adventure—but it needs to be planned correctly.

This is one of the reasons I tell travelers not to choose a Belize resort based on the room and price alone. A resort that looks like the perfect deal can be a very different value once you factor in transfers, travel time and flight schedules.

Belize is absolutely worth the extra effort. You just need to know what happens after you land.

That’s the kind of detail a good travel plan should account for before you book.

September is going to be a busy month at Travel by Chanel Owens!

My travelers are heading off on:

• A St. Lucia honeymoon • London + Scotland • London → Paris → Mont-Saint-Michel → a French château • A girls’ trip through London → Paris → Florence → Rome

Four trips. Four completely different ways to see the world — and that’s exactly how I think travel should be.

Your vacation should feel like your vacation, not a copy of someone else’s.

And September 2027? I already have several trips in the planning stages.

If Europe, the Caribbean or somewhere completely different is calling your name for next fall, now is a great time to start planning.

🚨 Calling all true crime fans... this one is for you! 🔎⚓@

just announced the return of their True Crime Voyage for March 2027, and it is unlike anything else at sea.

Imagine spending 5 nights sailing the Caribbean while enjoying:
🕵️ Live true crime podcast recordings
🎙️ Meet-and-greets with your favorite hosts
🧩 Crime-themed trivia and immersive events
🏝️ Stops in Grand Turk and Virgin's private Beach Club at Bimini

And because it's virginvoyages , you'll also enjoy award-winning dining, incredible entertainment, tips, Wi-Fi, fitness classes, and an adults-only atmosphere—all included.

If you've ever binged a true crime podcast or found yourself saying "just one more episode," this sailing might have your name written all over it. 👀

I have a feeling this one will be incredibly popular, so if you're even thinking about it, let's chat before the best cabins disappear!

Christmas Market ❄️Tips Before You Go 🎄
The lights, the food, the handmade gifts, the decorated town squares—European Christmas markets are one of those trips that really can feel as special as they look.

But there are a few things I recommend knowing before you go.

Save room in your suitcase for the things you’ll inevitably find, bring a bag for shopping, learn a few local phrases, and dress warmer than you think you need to. You’ll spend a lot of time outside, and comfortable shoes and layers can make a huge difference. 🎅

And my biggest tip? Don’t plan a Christmas market trip around the markets alone.

Some of my favorite itineraries combine the markets with beautiful hotels, historic neighborhoods, local restaurants, day trips and experiences that let you see more of the destination.🏰

If a European Christmas market trip is on your list, I can help you figure out which markets fit you, how to combine multiple cities without overpacking the itinerary, where to stay, and how to get from place to place.

August may be flying by, but there's still time to make a difference.

I'm honored that the Arkansas Autism Foundation is my August Charity of the Month, and every trip booked this month continues to give back.

Throughout August, 10% of my professional planning fees will be donated to support the incredible work the Arkansas Autism Foundation does for autistic individuals and their families across our state.

If you're looking for another way to support their mission, I encourage you to check out their upcoming Blue Tie Blue Jean Ball on September 24. It's always a fun evening that brings our community together while raising funds to help create opportunities and resources for autistic Arkansans.

I'll share the event page in the comments if you'd like to learn more or purchase tickets.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me with your travel plans this month. Every trip you book helps create incredible memories while also making a positive impact right here in Arkansas.
