Thinking about spending Christmas in Europe?

Here's a quick tour of my room at El Capitan Hotel.

It's a King room in the older part of the hotel. And yes, that is a working record player in the room (with a few records on a shelf below it.)

What a pleasure it was to stay at El Capitan hotel in downtown Merced recently!

The hotel is a delightful oasis of calm colors and beautiful local art.

If you're looking for a unique, charming hotel in the area, this is the hotel for you!

Imagine Thanksgiving, but someone else cooks. That's what I'm doing this year.

If hosting, grocery shopping and doing dishes aren’t exactly how you want to spend the long weekend, consider taking Thanksgiving on the road this year. The best part? I can handle the hotel, logistics and, most importantly, where you’re eating Thanksgiving dinner.

Let’s start planning before the holiday rush begins.

Thinking about a trip to NYC? I have!

Broadway is calling to me and the holidays are a perfect time to take a bite out of the Big Apple.

When was the last time you drove the magical California coast? It's waiting for you.

If you’re cruise-curious but aren’t sure where to start, I’d suggest Alaska.

It’s one of those destinations that’s incredible to experience but surprisingly difficult to do on your own. A cruise lets you explore coastal towns, glaciers, and fjords without juggling rental cars, ferries, or multiple flights.

The best part? You unpack once, and your hotel comes with you. Every morning you wake up somewhere new.

I had to travel to the Washington, D.C. area last week and it reminded me of why I don’t recommend clients travel to the area in the summer. Nor is springtime the best time to visit, though I love the cherry blossoms just as much as anyone.

The best time to visit the area is in autumn to early winter, when the weather turns crisp and comfortable, summer crowds have vanished and you can stroll the many historic neighborhoods at your leisure. And here’s where I would stay and what I would do in the autumn.
