What we think we like and what we actually like don’t always match up 🧠
It is true for romantic partnerships, as shown by recent studies from the University of Toronto.
We are absolutely sure it is the same with career choices!
Our ideas about how much we like a trait of a potential partner (or a field of activity) are later barely correlated to how much we end up liking that quality.
It happens because our assumptions are grounded in previous experience. We state we like humor, but it could be just that we’ve gone on dates with funny people and liked them.
We become constrained by our own ideas about liking and limit our choice–oh no!
That’s why we always support trying something you’ve never done before.
These actual experiences give us an understanding of what we might like 🖤
