Ask A Mama (Mama Mentoring, Infant Care Classes & Baby Planning)

Ask A Mama (Mama Mentoring, Infant Care Classes & Baby Planning) Ask A Mama is a Los Angeles-based business that helps new and expectant parents prepare for life with a newborn. I would love to support your journey, too.

Getting to know Jaime Markham, owner of Ask A Mama:

I am a former professional nanny with more than 15 years of experience with newborns and multiples. I've worked in North Carolina, New York, Chicago and for more than 10 years now I've been based in Los Angeles. The need to help others became evident when my husband and I were expecting our first child. He was somewhat clueless in the area of al

l things baby. I thought it would be a good idea to take him to a class and to get him acquainted with the basics of diapering, burping, bathing, etc. I left the class extremely disappointed in the material covered and the general, baby-book advice that was offered. Many of the attendees had specific, practical questions and concerns drawn directly from what they were experiencing at the time. When our instructor was unable to answer some of their questions, I chimed in to help the soon-to-be parents with their particular dilemma.

Later, I realized how many in-depth topics are left out of general preparatory classes. I knew I could help other expectant parents by teaching the real basics and beyond – arming parents with insights and tips gleaned from years of taking care of infants, including multiples. I could help them with best practices in how to respond to crying or distressing behaviors as well as manage the general uncertainties of new parenthood. At Ask A Mama, you'll get mama-tested tips as well as basic information and a Mama Mentor to call on for guidance and support.

I have always found joy in using my professional child care experience to help my friends, family and clients. My goal is that you are comfortable enough in my class to ask me anything and that you not only see me as a teacher, but as a fellow parent who learns new things everyday from my own little instructional guide, Lillie. No subject is off limits and I will be happy to share stories from my many years as a professional nanny caring for newborns, as well as my own journey through motherhood.

New blog post: Technology vs. Parenting

The year was 1990: I was in the 6th grade, Wilson Phillips was my favorite band and my Dad got his first cell phone. I remember thinking how cool it was that we could now call people while we were riding in our car. It was bigger than any phone I’ve owned in the past 15 years and was housed in a p...
