We haven’t had many words for social media these days, as we are still reeling from the last week here in City of Angeles. We know so many that have lost their homes and are still evacuated because the aftermath of the fires have made it unsafe to be in parts of our city.

Both of my children go to school in the Palisades Fire area. My son had to be evacuated last Tuesday and I could see the huge smoke plume behind his head as he FaceTimed me to let me know. My daughter’s High School was badly burned and while not a total loss, we are unsure when they will return to in person learning normalcy. So so so many friends have lost everything in both the Palisades and the Eaton fires. Altadena has been one of my top 3 favorite neighborhoods since I was a child. This picture is an idyllic view of their daily commute along PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) which is now unrecognizable. If you’ve been following the news you know how horrific things are along this area, but I’ll spare you that image now, I just want to remember it like this.

My heart has not stopped weeping since last week but we have been doing what we can to support relief efforts across the city, from collecting items for people I personally know who lost everything in Altadena and raising money to coordinating efforts alongside a group of parent volunteers in service of Pali High. It has been a lot.

To all of our LA based Travel Tribe members that have been personally impacted, whether you lost your home or not, we are all impacted and know that we grieve with you and will be here to rebuild with you. For those of you that have joined us from other cities and states, I’ll be sending a newsletter soon with some ways you can support if you are interested in doing so. In the meantime, we at Team Family Go Global ask for a little grace responding to emails as we pick up the pieces of our lives and try to resume some level of “normal” in the coming weeks.

With love and care,
Rebecca

Our Story

Family Go Global inspires diverse and adventurous families to connect, explore and engage with other cultures around the world, building community through curated travel experiences.

Family Go Global was founded in 2013 by Rebecca Bernard, an avid traveler, education entrepreneur and mother of two, with the aim of making travel easy and fun for families.

Just because you have kids doesn’t mean you want to give up your passport! On the contrary, travel provides an incredible opportunity to not only open up young minds to the world around them but also helps to solidify positive family bonds.

That is what Family Go Global is all about, curating unique travel experiences that center on family first and put learning right up there with having fun. Since its inception, Family Go Global has hosted travel adventures in North America, Central America and Europe and will soon be expanding to South America.
